She's been been on a lot of speaking/campaigning tours lately, people just don't know or acknowledge her doing so. Our media also scrutinized her like no other VP in a negative light while she was doing working on Biden's behalf, yet made sure to undersell what she was doing (Biden has mentioned it in past speeches, it's a lot of foreign policy work from what I remember). She'd also be able to tout the success of his administration as someone who is a part of it. As for people not being excited about her, that's always going to be the case regardless of who the nominee is. There's not some mythical Dem candidate who will quell infighting. Our primaries show us there will always be bitter feelings and strife, I don't see a convention 1-2 months before early voting starts being an exception to this. There's definitely going to be bitter feelings from those who actually wanted the Biden/Harris ticket, not saying they won't ultimately vote, however voters can and do find personal reasons to not vote. And this non-Harris candidate would need to spend time building a campaign/national volunteer staff, creating, reserving time for, and putting ads out there, and then actually campaign so people could learn who they are as all the most popular suggestions, as far as I'm aware, have said they're not going to do it.
