I know theyve made other shit (kings field, armored core) but were talking about the big boys today

i've only beaten dark souls 1 and played a bit of ds2, ds3, bloodborne and elden ring

but i loved the first dark souls so i picked that

Bloodborne for me but Elden Ring is pretty rad too

Dark Souls 2 is like the black sheep of the family but I loved it. Especially the SotFS version

I don't think I can pick a favorite. they are all great in their own way, but with their own flaws also. the one with the least flaws (that I've played) is probably Sekiro, but it's also maybe the only one that is too short.

I'm gonna get lambasted for this. It's Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 3 was too derivative of the first in terms of content/references without having the level design strength of the first, and while it got rid of a lot of stuff that was bad in DS2, it also got rid of pretty much everything that was really cool in DS2 as well. DS1 is really strong at first, I don't think anyone can deny that, but it drops off hard and to me feels outright incomplete. DS2 has a lot of problems, but most of them just... don't bother me very much for some reason? I don't know why. I really like it. And I like how bizarre Drangleic is in comparison to Lordran, it feels like nothing in the world makes sense anymore, and within the context of the narrative it works perfectly. It cranks the fantastical elements up to 11 and actually examines what NPCs feel about going hollow and such.

I also was really enjoying Sekiro, but around the time I was playing it, I developed severe chronic pain in my hands and my ability to keep up with the skill demands of the game dropped into the toilet, so I never completed it. *sigh* I think I was down in the canyon that the big white snake is always crawling around when I stopped. I'd like to be able to play it again someday but I'm not sure that's going to happen with my hands the way they are. Maybe my sibling can play it and I can watch, though.

I haven't played Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, or Elden Ring (yet), but I did just update my computer specs and I am going to do Elden Ring once I have the time for it and when my hands aren't hurting so much. Excited for that.

I actually just replayed DS1 and DS3 recently, and am planning on hitting up DS2 again, too. For each game, I designed a bunch of characters, some copied from elsewhere, some original. I did pick the wrong hairstyle and forget to change it for one of them so that sucks, but other than that I'm pretty happy, and backed up those saves for DS1 and DS2 so I don't have to remake those characters.
Here are some of them (I have more but I think these are the best of what I've done): The two who look very similar in column 1, rows 3 and 4 are actually fem and masc respectively, not duplicates. I thought the face made for interesting characters of both genders, so I made it twice. The DS1R black girl was by far the hardest character to make. Super happy how she turned out though.

Elden Ring single player, Dark Souls 2 multiplayer

Bloodborne > DS3 > ER for me.

Sekiro in the backlog, doubt ill play the rest of the list.

I only played DS1-3 and ER. Much as I love DS1 and DS2 I'm going with ER. It's Dark Souls amplified by 1000 and less frustrating.

dark souls 3 was what finally got me into the genre (never finish dks1 before 3), so i'll always have a soft spot for it

elden ring's great, but I still think dks3 is my favorite

It's the only game they've ever made that I've actually enjoyed. I hate their design philosophy and "Souls-like" games as a whole.

I remember renting and playing a card-based RPG that Fromsoft made years back on the Gamecube. It actually has a similar HUD to the Dark Souls series. Don't remember the name though.

it was quite a long tine ago that I think lokarin reccomend I play the armored core games on here, AC3 was an instant favorite when I picked it up, and Ive been a die hard ever since, still hard to believe that the AC drought is over

Demons and Dark Souls are both magical in their own ways. Demons is super esoteric but keeps its own identity really well compared to other games in the franchise. Dark had more mass market tendencies but the way the world is laid out and connected are still second to none in the franchise.

Ds2 is just so much fun to run through for me. Infinitely replayable imo. Elden ring is more fun mechanically but it's too long to binge playing through repeatedly
