I thought the title was supposed to be ironic, but now its just really sad.

Like, this is the end goal for how they want every person under capitalism to start thinking. TC's mind has been fully colonized by capitalism.

Never was in debt but I did have a job that made me work 72 hours a week. Wasn't a life worth living I pretty much just had no free time on work days and slept the majority of my day off.

I'm assuming both jobs pay very well and aren't too demanding.

I thought all the debt you had you got I hesitate to say "fortunate" on the outcome where you got hit on your scooter and the settlement wiped out all your debt? Was this new debt that you just went and racked up after escaping it the first time or was it still from a mountain of previous debt that was only partially taken away by the settlement?

Either way, busy or not I'm glad you are able to make a dent in it. I couldn't fathom putting myself in that position other than when I bought my house.

The job I have been at the last 25+ years pays once a month. I actually like it but it seems like this wouldn't be a system you would like. I know most people I talk to when they find I get paid once a month they are always against the idea of it.

its pretty cursed and shouldnt be something anyone should need to do, but i can see how it would be tempting if it means he can knock out 20k in debt in a few months. i mean, i had no life during school and did nothing but work/study, but i did it to set myself up for the future so i kind of understand.

the monthly payments for a large amount of debt can be suffocating if you dont make enough. that could be like a year's rent depending on where you live so it's quite a bit, so it would probably be a drag even in a good economy

Just get 1 job that pays twice as much.

I had two jobs working 28-30 hours a week back in 2019. Man that was some awesome money.

Id imagine its nowhere near as good as working one well paid job.

The same kind of "Freedom" that having a car in North America gives you.

i.e. an illusion of being able to go where you want when its actually just traffic with no actual alternatives anywhere except a couple trains in a couple of cities here and there. Or busses, if you WANT to be miserable since, yeah, they basically are a bandaid put on top of a bandaid in North America.

It sucks to be forced to work two jobs for it. I prefer another kind of freedom. Sure I am not financially secure and sometimes I feel scared but I am personally glad I don't work a second job. I work only 28 hours a week and it pays the bills and then some. Then I spend the rest of that time doing what I want. I won't be rich and I won't get married or get a car but I'm in an apartment and enjoy my games and other hobbies.

You don't that's the neat part.

I didn't have 2 jobs but I averaged 73.5 hours a week for almost 4 years. Fortunately I loved the job so that carried me. But it turned me into a alcoholic and ruined multiple potential relationships as I didn't have time for them

But the nice thing was I was never concerned about money.

The reality is, its a lot easier to go anywhere in a city that has strong public transportation than one that doesn't. Like, actually going to places around that world that have kick-ass public transportation like Singapore, I can pretty confidently say that the American system fucking blows.

Honestly that still sounds absolutely awful. You'll get burnt out if all you do is work and sleep. Doesn't sound like a life I'd ever like to live.

Anyway, good on you my man for doing what you gotta do to drop that debt.

I kinda did the same thing about a decade back when I had about 20k of debt too. Only, I just worked one job but took all the overtime I could for a few months until I could cut back the cc and student loan debt to zero.

It fucking sucks, but honestly, not having the stress of being in debt hanging over you makes it worth it.

I get what you mean. You are liberated by being financially secure. You are liberated by not having the impending threat of being unable to pay rent, utilities or afford food. Yes, not having more genuine free time sucks, but it's, at least for the moment, a lesser weight than the financial one you had been shouldering. It gives you the freedom to recover and start tackling your next problem.
