If Trump somehow wins do people really want JD Vance a heart beat, another assassination attempt, or scandal way from being President? Had no idea this board felt that way that saying for him to drop out got that reaction.

Nobody Trump replaced him with would be an improvement. The GOP has become the Trump Party, a Haley or Burgum would implement the fascist will of the Heritage Foundation all the same because that's what's become expected of them.

That's why there are no decent Republicans left, they've all been ran out of the party. They're all fascists, or at least willing to capitulate to fascists, at this point.

The best we can hope for is a fascist that helps ruin his chances and not one that fools the general electorate into thinking they're not actually the Christo-fascist threats they are.

Nobody Trump replaced him with would be an improvement.

No any average Republican would be.

There are four major camps in the GOP right now:

- NeverTrump (lol)
- Establishment GOP (following Trump out of obligation but would drop him as soon as the average Republican voter does. Ex. Nikki Haley, Mitch McConnell)
- MAGA grifters (actively profiting off of Trumpism but doesn't care beyond the money and infamy. Ex. Vivek Ramaswamy)
- Christofascist true believers (not just obeying or benefiting from Trumpism, but actively advancing the cause on a technical level to fundamentally change America. Ex. Mike Johnson)

JD Vance falls in one of the latter two camps and considering just how far beyond the average Trump sycophant grifter he goes in his rhetoric and proposals he may be effectively indistinguishable from the 4th and worst camp.

Having someone like that in the WH is a nightmare because they have Trump's commitment to the creation of a fascist state but without Trump's general inconsistency and ineptitude.

The other camps may distance themselves from aspects of Project 2025 that are unfavorable to their electoral prospects. Since their personal success comes first. The 4th group is going to push the agenda as hard as possible regardless of how anyone responds to it.

NeverTrump, though an odd case in that he has literally never mentioned Trump by name or even directly referenced him outside of books and private speeches. Nevertheless he didn't vote Trump and he's denounced everything that makes the Trumpian GOP different from previous versions.

LOL at this topic, and TC's insistence that he's just pointing out mistakes by both sides.

That story fails as soon as it's noticed that his advice to Republicans in this topic would help their chances in the election, while his advice to Democrats in countless other topics and comments is uniformly to do stupid shit that would also help Republican chances in the election.

Can't think why.

I think it was hubris. They thought they were on cruise control to certain victory, and wanted a maximally offensive VP pick to rub it in. Plus I'm sure Vance performed admirably in whatever revolting vetting process Trump used.

It's not really "these people" in this particular case. It's just Trump, who is, of course, an idiot. I'm sure Trump's GOP handlers attempt to give him advice, but LOL at that.

So Trump wanted a toady (and picked one that best acted the part). The problem for Trump is that Vance is not Trump's creature, he is Peter Thiel's creature, and now the worst possible thing for Trump would be to actually win in 2024.

he was basically made VP because peter thiel wanted him to. peter has constantly gotten him jobs that he failed at and threw money to let him fail upwards.
this was trump trying to get some of peter thiels money because the GOP thought they had the election in the bag
kamala being a bigger threat than president biden really highlights how unqualified and disliked JD vance actually is
he was picked because they didnt think they would need to appeal to moderates if they just kept attacking biden

Trump Jr., Stone and Carlson are in Trump's innermost circle precisely because they are the one most adept at seeing what Trump wants to do and passing that off as their own ideas.

Edited to add: this is more important than it might seem, since concentrating absolutely all decision-making into one person is the canonical weakness of dictatorships.

That will be on the Haley primary supporters actually having scruples. Which, while I don't think that number will be 0, I also don't consider it election-changing.

But they, they were primarily voting for her as a rejection of Trump, not cause they loved Haley, so I'd love to be proven wrong.
