I believe the river really is a lot cleaner than it was before. But, apparently still not good enough to swim in. A lot of the changes made as part of the river clean up effort are supposed to work long term.

If the Seine really tested with ecoli levels under the limit, then it really is fine. My town has a river that was too polluted to swim in for decades, and had a massive cleanup. It's now mostly okay, but after rain, and in certain spill zones, it's definitely unsafe. Still, people avoid swimming in it because they think it's always going to be dangerous. And some people still do get ecoli even under when it's under recommended levels, if they're gulping water or something.

Either way it's a badass project and a great use of Olympic funds. It will make the city 10x better to live in in the long run.

That's actually pretty common for the triathlon regardless of where it's held. It's a brutal event.

I kinda think the US men are going to sneak by Morocco tomorrow. Morocco's been uneven as all hell this tournament.

Their reward will be an embarrassing loss to Spain in the semis and another embarrassing loss to the loser of France/Argentina in the bronze medal match, though.

In other news, Israel continues it's long-standing tradition of getting to Judo finals and getting completely clapped in said Judo finals. Never won a Judo gold, but several silvers, and this last gold medal match was a loss in like 40 seconds.

Judo is kind of a dumb event where if you ever score you just automatically win unless you're dumb enough to get yourself disqualified. A 1-0 lead is insurmountable.

Though, we still haven't gotten to Greco-Roman Wrestling, which as of last I knew, may as well have been called "Olympic Coin Flipping". The last time I remember watching that event, almost every single winner was decided on a single flip of a coin.

I was watching Judo yesterday and all I could think was, "Try to remember some of the basics of CQC."

Never thought I'd see a day where Egypt made the semis of a major football event again.

They're going to get completely wrecked next match, but it's a great accomplishment and good on them.
