Isn't Maduro a bad leader though? One of my Venuzelan coworkers who had to leave the Venuzela told me that Venuzuela's dictatorship is supposed to end today.

This. My ex is Venezuelan and he's as left-leaning as they come, and he acknowledges Maduro is a dictator who has ruined the country.

There isn't really a good guy, but the dictatorship that has been ruining Venezuela is claiming they won and the opposition claims they won. All the evidence made public (exit polls) suggests the opposition won big, but dictatorships often don't care what the actual results are since they can just report the results as whatever they want.

Venezuela used to be one of South America's richest countries until Chavez came along. He had good intentions and did good at the beginning by expanding social safety nets, but all those were dependent on the price of oil being stable and then sanctions came along. There is a reason right wingers love to bring Venezuela and Cuba as their default defense against socialism/communism.

It's really shameful seeing accounts on twitter who probably dont live there or are not even Venezuelan celebrating the on going dictatorship of Maduro just cause they support Palestine. They probably support Russia as well. Venezuela is in dire need of change.

See this part is certainly the public position he presented but the end result is massive povery and income inequality. His family members became billionaires while the lower class became even poorer. So I just don't buy the good intentions argument.

Forbes estimated his wealth at about 2 billion when he died and his daughter is worth twice that now, despite the country suffering even more from poverty. Maduro's family is also extremely wealthy. I don't see any reason to believe the claims he made when the evidence shows he just replaced the upper class with his family and friends.

Im not really defending chavismo. Venezuela is objectively way worse today after Hugo's coup. But I really hate these arm chair leftist radicals who see things black or white. Supporting Palestine DOES NOT MAKE YOU A SAINT or that everything you do is good. Just cause the big capitalist powers of the world oppose Venezuela, doesnt mean Maduro is right.

Maduro is a putinite fascist who uses the socialistic language of his predecessor to keep up airs of legitimacy.
