Pedro Pascal was hilariously adorable in it. Been a while since I've watched a meta tongue in cheek movie.

Nic Cage plays a fictional version of himself whose aware of all the jokes people have done about his acting choices and movie roles.

It's good.

Longlegs is terrible and Nicholas Cage's terrible acting ruins any chance it had.

I recently watched The Color Out of Space and I feel Nicolas Cage did a good job in that movie too.

Yeah, that movie was so good. A lot of people sleep on Nicholas Cage because for a while he was signing up for just any shitty movie he could. Made him seem like a bad actor, but it was just bad movies.

Nah his acting was fantastic in Longlegs. Nailed the unhinged, creepy psycho.

You probably have the same problem that some others do: The fact that it's Nic Cage killed your suspension of disbelief

He takes too much shit for some of his roles/acting.

Ive read articles where he opens up about this and honestly it made me like him even more. His penchant for extravagant spending, including purchases of European castles, Rolls Royces, and unusual items like a dinosaur skull, eventually led to significant issues with the IRS over unpaid taxes. The economic crash of 2007/2008 further exacerbated these problems, decimating many of his investments.

So plain and simple he started becoming less strict about about roles he took. What I really liked was he talked about openly knowing some movies werent great but he still gave his full effort and never phoned it in. He treated it respectfully and was truly a working actor.

I totally love that. This movie was self aware enough to poke fun at his real life situation of taking a task for the money. I thought it was great. Plain and simple this guy has been in a lot of movies Ive enjoyed since the early 80s. 40+ years he has been entertaining me.

My belief was fully suspended. Then he hammed it up by doing the same schtick he does in dozens of other films. The character in the first appearance is not the one we deal with later on in the film.

One of the subtler things I liked about the movie was the double-twist of Pedro Pascal turning out to be a bad guy, but then back to being a good-ish guy (or at least not so bad a guy that you lost sympathy for him; I only watched it once and I'm fuzzy on the plot details at this point). To me it felt like a deliberate reference to the string of movies Pascal made up to that point that had him end up being a twist villain.

There are often lists of the great living male movie stars: De Niro, Nicholson and Pacino, usually. How often do you see the name of Nicolas Cage? He should always be up there. He's daring and fearless in his choice of roles, and unafraid to crawl out on a limb, saw it off and remain suspended in air. No one else can project inner trembling so effectively. Recall the opening scenes in "Leaving Las Vegas." See him in Scorsese's "Bringing Out the Dead." Think of the title character in "The Weather Man." Watch him melting down in "Adaptation." And then remember that he can also do a parachuting Elvis impersonator ("Honeymoon in Vegas"), a wild rock 'n' roller ("Wild at Heart"), a lovesick one-handed baker ("Moonstruck"), a straight-arrow Secret Service agent ("Guarding Tess") and on and on.

He always seems so earnest. However improbable his character, he never winks at the audience. He is committed to the character with every atom and plays him as if he were him. His success in making Charlie Kaufman a neurotic mess and Donald Kaufman a carefree success story, in the same movie, comes largely from this gift. There are slight cosmetic differences between the two: Charlie usually needs a shave, Donald has a little more hair. But the real reason we can tell the twins apart, even when they're in the same trick shot, comes from within: Cage can tell them apart. He is always Charlie when he plays Charlie, always Donald when he plays Donald. Look and see.

I thought it was fantastic. Not only is it the most Nic Cage energy ever, it actually had an interesting and fun storyline, and of course Pedro Pascal. The FBI (CIA?) agents were also a riot. And that shout out to Paddington Bear 2 was such a good scene lol.

Yeah this. Watch Jiu Jitsu. The movie is pretty terrible and the actors are also terrible but when you see them next to Nic Cage it's pretty clear there's a big difference in effort and experience as he was basically the only not shit part of the movie.

Hate to double post, but I think his worst movie role was Face-Off.

They should have switched him and Travolta's characters. Have Cage play the good guy at the beginning, and then have him do the zany lunatic for the majority of the movie.

No, most aging actors are not putting out pathetic garbage. Pacino is a shameful example of what not to do.

Haven't seen anything with Pacino since Ocean's 13 but I thought he was good in that.
