Imagine, instead of just letting people have their fun with the weird turn of phrase, you get this aggravated in trying to correct people for... reasons?

I don't think it's a weird turn of phrase. there's also a bunch of people ITT who are also claiming that the concept of a toddler library is ridiculous because toddlers don't read or benefit from books?

that's absurd. books are for all ages. and like my first post in this topic says, republicans are literally actively removing simple toddler picture books from libraries and labeling them "sexually explicit" because they depict families with two dads

i have a 2 year old, and we have been checking out picture books from the toddler library--sorry, "toddler section at the local library" for almost as long as he's been alive

Especially since it doesn't change the point we were making. There's no such thing as a specific "toddler library". A "toddler library" can only, literally only, be made up of books their parents and/or caretaker bought in the first place, so there should be no surprises unless you parent

A. Buys books randomly without even knowing what they are, or
B. Has literally no idea who is actually watching their children at daycare or whatever

And just to clarify because I missed your edit: republicans are actively having these books removed from schools and libraries across the country, right now.

I know it's all made up bullshit to enrage the base, but there is legitimate concern that they would use these laws to ban non-sexually explicit books that teach you about the human body.

They've literally already done that. In multiple states they've used the "protect the children" argument to remove books talking about any sort of racial identity or non-white empowerment material. "Protect the children" has always been code from fascists to really say, "let us take away and erode your rights".

Last I checked, toddlers are not known for their love of literature given how theyre just beginning to walk and say their first word. (Mine was apparently poop for some odd reason)

Starts with them being mad 'Forever...' is in Middle School libraries then it turns into some shit about technically it being suitable for 11 year olds in 5th grade, then they're freaking out about 1st graders finding it even though First Graders are just reading Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Dog Man and maybe Mo Willems' Pigeon book series.

They do the same with Sex Education. Schools don't normally speak to 3rd graders about that, but Republicans pretend like schools are or are ALL about to and they're so afraid about having to explain it to their kids.

One of the best things about this "Republicans are weird" angle is how terrible they are at trying to turn it around.

He could have just said "they're trying to make sexually explicit books available to children." It would still have been dishonest and morally repugnant, but at least it would have worked somewhat as a rebuttal.
