It was enormously popular among normal video game players in its day, which means that the some of the people who were 7 year old struggling to figure out the more esoteric stars of Cool, Cool Mountain are now adults engaged in their hobby more deeply. Super Mario 64 wasn't some indie game tucked away on Steam. It was the major launch title of a beloved console.
