Eventually, given engineers love for loopholes, we would have eventually gotten a car (that would be quickly banned) with a tire-melting laser mounted on it.

I was thinking the other day that a general notion of sportsmanship is actually just a guard rail for them to not add even MORE rules.

Edit: maybe disregard some of this depending on things. A month ago or so I watched a bunch of videos on Formula 1, and how engineers and the F1 regulatories are basically at eternal war with each other. For some reason I just saw a racing topic and basically started thinking of F1, not NASCAR, which I know much less about.

This. He's a shit driver who's now in the playoffs. He was sitting at 32nd in the standings and wouldn't even have that ride, or any ride (probably) except his Granddaddy owns the team. He's always been a weaselly little douche.
