seeing that you could change your camo by pressing up on the D-pad was enough for me.

look, it's pretty clear what this is, and what it's always been. kojima got fucked by konami, and konami turned away from games. you don't think kojima said "well fuck you, try to make good games without me"? you don't think konami came back after their pachinko phase and said "no fuck you we'll just make money off of your ideas because we can't make any good new ones of our own"?

at least they're remaking it 1-on-1 because it's fantastic game. but they're remaking someone else's game, who left bitterly, or was forced out, or whatever the fuck happened. and they're banking off of his creation, completely. and they love that shit. because they can't do new good shit. they could never make MGS6 without kojima.

Very disappointing. The QoL improvements are great but I was hoping they were going to expand the play space a little and not just stick to the distinct zones. I'll pick it up at some point I'm sure but it'll likely be when it's on sale.

I'm not sure what's a strawman about that, FFVII Rebirth is a game that does exist, and it did get a complete genre change. I prefer remake stuff like Star Ocean: Second Story R, which basically kept the original battle system intact. So I'm fine with this keeping MGS3's original gameplay and adding some slight new changes.

hell resident evil 2 remake is one of the most critically acclaimed video game remakes ever

and it changed alot from the original game

i feel like they should combine some spaces, like the end's fight in 3 different areas

and maybe add different branching paths, it's a damn jungle

Make a one to one remake, people complain that it's boring and they should have changed things.
Make an altered remake, people complain you've changed too much and it's not the same game any more.

Doing both could be a nice compromise in terms of the level layout. Want to do the original path? It's still right there. Want a totally different, never before seen route? There's some pathways here or there that go in totally different layouts.

That video made it seem like it mainly added in features from the 3DS version. I definitely didn't think we needed another HD remaster. I am glad they kept the original voice acting though instead of whatever Silent Hill 2 remake decided to do.

A 1:1 remaster of THIS game is totally fine and realistically, the only way I wouldve accepted a different kind of gameplay change would be if they had turned it into an AC!D style game.. that would be far too different though

I can't comment on the 3DS version since I haven't played it, but I feel like extremely faithful remakes like these are still valid, even if they're just meant to attract new players.

It's just a remaster if 1:1

iirc, a game is a remake when rebuilt from the ground up, no matter how close it sticks to the original, while a remaster is using preexisting assets to improve visuals and other/or other aspects.

Honestly, in this case it kinda is what I want.

I really liked the MCC with all the Halos 1 to 1 and a graphical update. I'm cool with this direction.

RE2 is perfection. I do agree with 1 to 1 remakes being boring. Also problem is that youre bringing the SAME gameplay from back then which mightve been revolutionary at the time, but not so much now. That limits how high a score it can get. I cat picture a 1 to 1 remake from 2004 getting anything more than an 8.

it's not being defensive, it's just that I always think it sounds silly when someone says something doesn't need to be made.

whether it's a sequel, a remake/remaster, new IP, etc.

like, it's fine not to be into any of those things, or even want them, but it doesn't mean there isn't an audience for it.

also, none of this "stuff" (any kind of media, new, old, and/or rehash) "needs" to be made; people make them because they want to.

I don't get why this is such a popular thing. If I wanted to play a 20 year old game, I'd play a 20 year old game.

I have MGS3 HD on my PS3 right now. I'd just need to pick up the controller and play it. In fact, I did, about two months ago, and it's still a great game. With the upscaling in that release, it even still looks perfectly fine.

I cant confirm any of this but from what I could gather and recall I believe they left on bad terms due to Kojima going waaaaay over budget in the production of MG5 by an insane margin. Which doesnt seem that far fetch to me tbh.

Multiple trains of thought on this. Can't please everyone unfortunately. Twin Snakes is arguably a much better game than the original MGS but some despise it because the MGS2 features make the game easier.

it was at a Konami event, and outside of a few screenshots, they couldn't share their own footage. so this is likely just the same stock footage.

however, they got to play some of it this time for themselves rather than a Konami employee, and they're at least able to share their experiences.

Whether it was better or worse is up for debate, but it at least offered a new experience. Which is what a frickin remake SHOULD do.

To be fair, it sounds like Delta is gonna change up gameplay pretty significantly, so that's something at least.
