I think Nintendo fans overrate them, but they do make great and classic games

They have phases where they're way ahead of the game, way behind, and right in line with everyone else. Overall they're fairly rated but they often get away with making low quality games based on name recognition alone.

I'd say fairly rated but really some are overrated and some are underrated and some are properly rated and it comes out to roughly what it should be

Without Nintendo the home video game market wouldn't have recovered from Atari

Haven't been able to afford Nintendo for a long time. The games are pretty expensive used too.

Ignoring quality of the games, I feel like public perception of Nintendo as a brand is overrated though. People go crazy reselling their stuff.

I think it's overrated, but I think almost everything is overrated now.

Overrated for the modern day overall they have made some of the best and most innovative games in the history of gaming.

On the NES alone they invented multiple genres that would go on to spawn countless imitators. A lot of people base it on what they produce in the modern day, but If you did top 100 games of all time plenty Nintendo titles would be on that list.

Overall i think they are fairly rated. Some individual games might venture into overrated territory to me but they have too much stuff to let a handful of games be the consensus.

The words lose a bit of meaning because it's a metric that can mean quite a bit, meanwhile if someone says something is good that typically means the same to most.

In general, probably not. On GameFAQs, yes.

The consoles; no. Theyve succeeded and failed as was appropriate.

Some of the games/franchises are though, at least now.

The quality is usually there.. this gen thou.. kinda overrated.

TotK received too much praise for being a copy/paste, Animal Crossing sold bucket loads and was very well done but was killed off way too early, Mario Kart 8 is alright, but not enough to push a 3rd release and there's no excuse why the Pokemon games look and play the way they do.

The Switch itself, while being very innovative but at the same time being as flimsy and outdated as it is, is well overrated at this point.
It was a fun gimmick for the first 5 years, but it's definitely time to move on.

MK8 has only been released twice. The recent "release" was just doing another wave of DLC in lieu of making a whole new game, which makes sense given that most of the value of a new game would just be getting new courses and that's a hard sell when 8 already has so many and such a large install base.

Fairly rated. Thing is, I don't give a damn about a lot of their favorite franchises (Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Kirby, Yoshi, etc.), but they have enough franchises that I can always find like half a dozen games a year worth playing. Plus, as much as people complain about their consoles, most of the components are off-the-shelf and don't need crazy requirements to use. Not enough storage? Stick any micro SD card (up to 2TB) into it. Don't have a switch dock? Pretty much any thunderbolt dock will work with it. Any bluetooth controller works on it, doesn't need to be a pro controller. Even their "cartridges" are just SD cards.

Can't really say the same for PS or XBox.

To be fair it really is just the Switch that does that, the Wii U has abysmal controller support. You were forced to use one of theirs, which all had that miserable "high analog sticks on both sides of the controller" layout that literally nobody liked or any other company has ever done. I also don't even think the wide capability of controllers with the Switch was intentional, it's just that Nintendo hasn't cared enough to prevent it this time. I hope that continues for them, for whatever their next console ends up being.

Also, the PS3 had universal compatibility with any USB controller. I was very disappointed that the PS4 went so restrictive because they wanted to push the use of that weird touch pad thing on their first party controller. Some games like MGSV are virtually unplayable without a first party controller on PS4 because of that.

Genuinely underrated when compared to other companies and their exclusive games.

the modern ones are way overrated. the classic ones are not though.

Yeah, basically. Some games get more love than they deserve, while others get a weird amount of hate. It all balances out.

Fairly rated for the most part. But some are overrated.

There are definitely some that are exceptional but most are mid.

They have a different corporate attitude when it comes to game design and I think those different priorities make the games feel noticeably different and some people are into that.

The entire Pokemon franchise is trash and probably shouldn't exist anymore.

I used to think they were overrated though. Mario Kart 8 was great enough to make me buy a Wii twice though (if you count the Wii U).
