INTRO

Welcome to my series of topics! I'm asking the question of if a movie is "Good" or "Bad". Feel free to caveat in the topic, since there are definitely movies that are objectively terrible that someone can like. Also, I'm gonna go alphabetically usually so if you have a movie you want tossed in here, go for it and give me a recommendation.

NOTE : It is unlikely I will put in universally beloved films since I mean, the jury is kinda already out on that. No reason to really ask if Jurassic Park is a good or bad movie. I might break this now and then with my own personal favorites or universally beloved movies that I personally don't like since you know, it's my series of topics.

NOTE 2 : Why is there no "Meh" option? Cause that would dominate the topic every single time. I'm usually not picking universally loved or hated movies, so forcing you to pick whether it's good or bad, that dichotomy? It's kinda the point. If you can't hedge and you just gotta say it's a good movie or not... what is your answer.

FILM DISCUSSION *SPOILERS*

How does one go about creating a movie based off a board game? Like... who has that idea, who thinks that it's a good idea, who then PAYS to make that happen, and executes it in a way that isn't just a total disaster?! Certainly wasn't the case for Battleship, but Clue? Well, that is for CE to decide I guess.

This film was the brainchild of John Landis (Coming to America, Animal House, The Blues Brothers) and Jonathan Lynn (who would go on to do My Cousin Vinny and The Whole Nine Yards). Stephen Sondeim apparently was involved a little bit as well, so like... some big time talent was involved in the making of the movie. It was John Landis' idea to have the multiple endings, a nod to the board game inspiration for the film, and interestingly Carrie Fisher was supposed to star as Miss Scarlet, but she had to leave due to needing to go to rehab. Two actors, including Rowan Atkinson, were first thought of to be Wodsworth before the first choice died and Rowan Atkinson considered not popular enough to move the needle. Thankfully we got TIM FUCKING CURRY in the role. Everyone in the main cast ended up making the same amount of money for doing the movie regardless of their own personal "star power" which is actually really uncommon even for ensemble type films like Clue was.

At the time of its release it was a box office disappointment, barely pulling even with development costs. It also didn't review well with a 41 on Metacritic and generally kinda was hated on at release. It has since developed a cult following and I can only speak for myself, I fucking love it. Amazing movie, all time classic goofy comedy.

In my top 10 personal favorites. The dialogue is woven together between all the characters so damn well.

Great movie, too bad I missed the timeframe when it was in theaters and there were multiple endings sent out, now it's ending 1, 2, and 3 played out with 3 being the conclusive one. Still a good movie, just would have been a neat experience.

Remember, Communism is a red herring.

Clue is not just a good movie, Clue is a great movie

One of my favorite comedies, within the top 3 probably.

Doesn't seem like it, although it supposedly got completely different titles in Brazil (The 7 Suspects), Germany (All the Killers Are Already There) and Japan (An Invitation to a Murder Game).

It's still fun to watch, I have the DVD so I usually choose to see all 3 endings.

All 3 endings are great.

When they try to add up how many bullets are left in the gun is never not funny.

I went to Tubi to see if it was there, but it was a different Clue movie made in like the 2010's for kids. =/

The '85 one is streaming on Paramount+, and there are services like Amazon Prime and Apple TV that have it available for rent or purchase.

I normally ignore your topics because Im just not that interested.

Clue earned it. It might actually be the best one on your list now that I look more closely. I think Enemy of the State is the only one I would have bothered voting on.

Edit: Also would vote Dredd or District 9.
