Its the first FE game I played and its still my favorite.

Extraordinarily good game. It remains my absolute favorite entry in the Fire Emblem series~

Great game. Just wish...
-Map actions could be skipped.
-We got Maniac Mode stateside.
-Its sequel had proper supports.

It's a fantastic game.

If you're thinking about buying that or Paper Mario, buy PoR. You can get the remaster of TTYD.

Path of Radiance is terrific. If you like strategy games at all I recommend it.

Pre-awakening FE is mid

Honestly don't think it aged that well. The combat is molasses, the gameplay is very basic albeit having some stuff like getting Naesala to leave and some recruitments being too esoteric. I hate the way the skills are implemented in this game too. It's mainly propped up by its inoffensive story featuring macho man Ike that leads into RD which I find incredibly overrated. Music in the latter half of the game is also lacking. Not even a final map theme. I do like the earlier themes though.

I'm in the "good, but didn't age well" camp. Map to battle transitions are absurdly slow.

The last game in the series I enjoyed playing multiple times. It's good.

Plus it gave us Titania.

It's one of my favorite FEs, though it has some significant flaws related to it QoL that can make it frustrating to revisit with regularity. And it's just really simple stuff too which makes it more maddening. Like why is there no combat forcast on the battle screen? Why does everything take forever with no way to speed it up? Like even if you turn off the battle animations, combat still takes forever.

This is compounded by the game being extremely enemy phase heavy so most of the game is spent watching Titania, Oscar, Marcia, Kieran and Jill run into a group of enemies, ending turn and then slowly watching the enemies kill themselves while you see none of the numbers behind it.

The game is also in desperate need of a real harder difficulty level. Even on hard mode, it's probably one of the easiest games in the franchise. And no, Japan's Maniac mode doesn't count. That shit is an unplaytested slog that was so unpopular with the Japanese audience they removed it from the international release. No, the game needs an actually well-designed and tested difficulty mode that is more than endless bulky paladin spam and siege tomes.

That said it did a ton of things I really liked. Tellius is the best world FE has ever created. It has the best support system in the series. The characters are fun. The Base Camp, is so much better than My Castle/Monastery/Somniel and should be the gold standard for between mission areas.

It's just a shame that the game is best played emulated with a battle forcast mod and frequent use of speed up.
