I saw an article on politifact calling Musk one of today's "leading thinkers" in the headline. I thought that was weird because he's more of a money guy and he thinks like a child.

Right wingers don't believe it happened.

I had figured he was artificially boosting his tweets, tweets mentioning him, or tweets mentioning his companies for awhile, as there is no way my interests overlap with any of that.

This has a hilarious secondary effect in that most/all tweets of that nature are brutal dunks on his expensive piece of crap cars, cheap rockets, or the gaffe of the week.

"But you use his platform!"

Most of the actual human users were there before him and it is not a simple thing to transplant communities when the competing platforms are nowhere near as established. This is the core problem with letting billionaire man children buy and then attempt to ruin things that are already built in order to sate their ego

He just wants to be like Tom from Myspace where he's everybody's friend by default

Sure, but Musk has done literally nothing to earn his money. He was born with enough to make a few smart investments at the right times. That's literally it.

Just as a disclaimer for what I'm about to say: I loathe that billionaires can even exist, and society is completely fucked because of it. And basically no one is ever a complete rags-to-riches success, they usually start with "a small loan of a million dollars" and just fall upwards from there -

But with all that said, it's not like every person who starts off life as a millionnaire becomes the wealthiest person on earth. I think there's probably a little more to his success than a few lucky investments and a headstart in life, as loathsome as he is

It's also that most of his investments are also wildly over-valued. There's zero reason Tesla should actually be valued higher than major car companies.

But yeah, his big head start came from getting lucky during the tech boom, and he (at least, used to be) a pretty good hype man for pushing semi-futuristic tech kind of stuff, like Tesla or Space-X.

But when you're as wealthy as people like Elon start, its often hard to actually fail downwards.
