But Biden bucked a lot of those same forces when he withdrew from Afghanistan. His administration's willingness to not just maintain the status quo re: Israel support, but to go out of their way for Israel in violation of US law is an act of moral cowardice. There are plenty of excuses for doing the wrong thing in politics. Telling them "no" risks dissent and the US has about a dozen game plans for an "Operation Israeli Freedom" they would rather not have to resort to. The money is a nice bonus but the US is hardly dependent on it. What matters is that, so long as neighboring countries are considered a threat, the US will want to be there and have command of the soldiers they paid for. Nobody will ever reverse course because they don't want to risk going down in history as the ones who made the biggest ever geopolitical blunder. The Middle East is incredibly rich in resources and Israel itself has a huge amount of wealth that can be extracted. Additionally, having a country that essentially owes its existence to us because we let it do whatever it wants means we have relatively easy access to a staging area for any kind of military action against all our adversaries.
