You think microtransactions are badthere are few things more frustrating than buying a brand new car for $60,000 and immediately on signing the paperwork being asked to pay extra for key safety features for the car

they keep emailing and calling and I even told them off over the phone because its fucking bullshit

i may never buy a new car again over this shit. Definitely not from Chrysler, but I assume all the major manufacturers do this garbage

but I am regretting it somewhat as the car stopped charging 2 months after we bought it and has now been in the shop for 16 days and counting

I had good experience driving a dodge caravan and then a chrysler town & country for many years

the Pacifica PHEV had a number of features we wanted over the Sienna--namely the 30 miles fully electric and stow and go seating,

the pacifica also qualified for $7500 tax credit upfront being an electric vehicle

Dafuq, there are SO many options. A Citroen Berlingo? The Peugeot variant? The Vauxhall Combo? Even that VW bus, although probably a bit above budget.

I don't want to pile on TC but most American cars usually come with upfront appeal only to decline inevitably. It's not as extreme as some German cars, but most American cars are not bought on reputation. They just looked good on paper or limited personal experience.

I do think Japanese cars are not the same tanks they used to be because of the added complexities, but relatively speaking I have more faith in them.

I worry this will become more common. With how many companies have moved to subscription services, even for products that really shouldn't be, this is going to turn into a hellscape that is worse than the multiple streaming apps out there.

I hope someone somewhere decides to put their foot down and make regulations for the car companies trying to cock block the car features behind a pay wall. We already pay enough for the damned cars.

But imagine if this just keeps going. Could Elon pay wall bodily "features" with neuralink? :O

Wait, you USA folks actually don't get modern cars? I thought it was just movie stuff that you all drive around in F150s and Rams, ok you're missing out in that case.

Yeahyeah troll post, but not intended to be that way, I have a 6.2 V8 estate ("station wagon") on the drive but it's disappointing to hear you folks don't get decent daily drivers. What do you drive daily?

I drive an EV or a Civic Type-R as a daily driver. Obviously I don't drive if I'm going local, I walk or take the bus/tube/train instead.

Just to give an example, I wanted to buy some microfibre cloths earlier today. I took the bus into town, picked up said cloths, and then got a bus back. Took me 15 minutes each way, travel cost me 1.75 ($2.35) for both journeys combined, and I took my Ferrari out in the evening. All I've had from the Ferrari garage is invitations to come and watch the F1, and "just pop in for a cuppa".

tbh I'm surprised my Camaro is still running completely fine after having it since 2013 and driving it in Indiana winters for 3 years before moving to where I am now. The only lingering problem now is a leak somewhere that makes the right rear floor wet when it rains a lot

I went Lexus PHEV SUV after that to not push my luck tho. 6 years from now something in the Lexus app is supposedly gonna stop working but I barely use it anyway. Remote start is there (only use it when its cold outside) but other than that I use it to check on the car's location because I'm paranoid when I'm away from it for a long time.

Stellantis is garbage from what I understand. I'd look into lemon laws to to try and get any venue of getting your money back if possible.

Also, it mini-vans in general are crazy expensive. You can get a nice luxary sedan for the price of one. (although I realize a mini-van is the most practical car type if you have a large family)

US gets modern cars, they are mostly SUVs though because of America's weird love affair with them and Congress creating a law that accidentally encouraged them to be made over smaller cars. (in before that's quite the username you have). A lot of non SUV models aren't sold in the US because of market demand and EPA regulations.

In suburban areas and cities you don't actually see many trucks. Its mostly SUVs and some sedans.

Car companies in general are salivating at the prospect of selling you your own car in pieces, especially with a recurring fee. Thanks a lot, horse armor. Marketing fuckfaces will call this "value-add".

In the US we even get the worse versions of cars that are made available everywhere.

Example: My 2021 Kia Sorento, a three-row compact SUV, doesn't have AC vents in the third row.

Canada's 2021 Kia Sorento, the exact same fucking car, built in the exact same fucking factory in Georgia and then shipped up to Canada, comes with AC vents in the third row.

yeah we wanted the mini-van for the extra row with 2 kids, plus storage for strollers and all the stuff we have to cart around

and we wanted an electric vehicle bc of the environment or whatever

it also has been great barely ever having to buy gas--the 30 miles on a full charge the pacifica gets is more than enough for normal use so we get a ton of mileage before having to fill up again

What really annoys me is they clearly have the spots back there for it cause they use the same trim pieces that have the holes where the AC vents and controls would be but are instead just filled in with more plastic in ours.

The fuck, Kia? My third row passengers are dying >_>

I'm sure the real answer is "You want third row vents? Buy a Telluride!"

It's not that we don't get modern cars. There are just a lot of European brands that aren't sold here.

Like I only know of Peugeot, Citron, Renault, Opel, Lancia, Skoda, Ligier, Vauxhall, etc., because of racing games and Top Gear. We don't get any of those. Only the luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, Bentley, and the hyper car brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini.

And while it's not all F150's and Rams here, there are a lot of those because manufacturers were able to push law makers to allow for more lax regulations on those trucks because they're labeled as "work" vehicles. So they save costs on those and heavily market them.

I personally hate pickup trucks and will never buy one. My daily driver is a Honda Accord

Hell yeah! I drive a chevy volt which has ~50 miles of electric range and some years I've gone the entire year without adding gas. I know in its case gas going bad was taken into account so it'll automatically use up gas if it's been about a year. Not sure if I'd buy another American vehicle, but it has served me well for a long time now.
