Anyway Yamcha holding his own vs the Other world tournament folk before Buu shows up.

Frieza: Is an intergalactic warlord who has never even had to try in a fight, and transformed multiple times to drop his power level and still continues to just brutalize everybody around him.
Goku: Becomes an ancient alien legend that is unlocked by decades of intense training and an extreme emotional response to his best friend's horrific death before his eyes, becoming the one being in the universe strong enough to defeat Frieza and end his reign of terror.
Dr. Gero: Casually turns a pair of teenagers into cyborgs that make the alien legend that toppled the unbeatable warlord look like an absolute chump. Also created an even stronger android that made them look like infants by comparison, immediately invalidating all the training the super-powerful aliens (who at this point were way stronger than Frieza) did to match 17 and 18's power.
Goten and Trunks: Flew out of their mothers with yellow hair.

And that's just sticking with Z. Super introduced so many characters who were strong enough to stop Frieza at literally any point and just decided not to. Merus was literally a fucking space cop, it was his job.

Or Master Roshi being recruited to the Tournament of Power, a collection of the strongest fighters across multiple universes, and actually contributing.

Yamcha has had the biggest power spike in the entire series, so probably that.

I know this topic is for Z, but in Super, Bulma took a slap to the face from Beerus and didn't get instantly vaporized.

Pikkon one-shotting Perfect Cell but having trouble against SSJ1 Goku.

I'm pretty sure it's anime filler, but that regular ass rock Krillin threw at a sleeping SSJ Goku right before the Cell Games to try and show how Goku's always on guard wins the award for worst display of power scaling since the rock actually hit Goku in the head and hurt him.

Battle of the gods in general. Also the entire jump from Saiyan saga through the end of Namek. After that point power scaling really never mattered.

Didn't Krillin keep up with SSB Goku in a sparring session? I didn't make it that far into Super but I remember people going off about it. I assumed Goku was holding back because it was a sparring session but idk

Roshi's a worse example. Atleast 17's an android and their thing is (near?) infinite stamina, so there's a world where you can conceivably believe he could gain a lot more from less training than others.

Roshi makes zero sense whatsoever.

If you include Super, then Frieza going from weaker than Namek Saga SSJ1 Goku to being at SSB level with just 4 months of training is up there. Also Roshi dodging Jirens attacks in the manga, even if that was only temporary.

But yeah, as far as Z goes a bunch of the Otherworld that was mentioned earlier is probably when the scaling was at its worst.

Dr Gero building teen robots that are insanely stronger than Frieza in a box of caves with a box of scraps is something I'd often been flummoxed by and annoyed with. However someone once gave a relatively good explanation for that and I was fine with it, but now I can't remember what they said.

Roshi should have been nowhere near the Tournament of Power. I also agree with Dr. Gero going from his organization getting clowned by a child to creating Androids that dwarf the strength of a universal terror (Frieza) by himself being kinda ridiculous

DBZ in general has horrible power scaling.

Take the Earth for example. If the Saiyan Saga had people merely powering up causing the apocalypse, Majin or even the Cell saga should of had people slightly flexing their power ending the planet.

Nevermind the fact that they are fighting on said planet and not ending it.

Roshi suddenly being effectively as strong as a super saiyan because he trained for a couple days and went to horny jail for a few minutes.

In Super.

He effectively went from a power level of maybe a thousand at the absolute most to having a power level that would've been at least in the millions if not tens of millions.

It really does. Even as a 16 year old watching the namek saga play out on toonami I couldn't help pointing out that goku jumping up in power so much as he did made no fucking sense lmao. Like, he is pretty stronk after gravity training on his way to namek right......he is over the ginyu force here, but still would definitely get waxed by first form frieza. Gets body jacked by ginyu, and gets his body all kinds of messed up by krillin and then vegeta.

Saiyan injury plot boost kicks in and just zaps him the fuck up. Kaio-ken goku is like, 180K before getting body jacked right. Frieza's suppressed self is 500K, I remember that much.

There is a bunch of power level jumping around here....piccolo who was a weak namek man vs nappa gets to slap up frieza's over 1 million second form self. Stuff happens, frieza transforms and he way too strong again now.

Goku, this fucker, comes back out of the healing pod, and his 180K self pre-injury saiyan boost is now 3 million......these injury boosts do not have a "set" power, its just whatever the fuck toriyama wants at that moment, lmao.

So kaio-ken times 20 goku is now like 60,000,000 at his best, to match frieza's 50 percent 60,000,000. Then there is the spirit bomb, goku gets mad, super saiyan just jumps the FUCK up to 150,000,000 mill and then frieza gets to 120,000,000 mill when fully going but can't hold it....

Its some goddamn bullshit, lmfao. All those numbers above was probably taken from the mystical dragon ball data texts of 1993 dajanshoo or whatever its called I don't know man it was a power level wiki.

You are NOT meant to take any of this stuff seriously......not a single bit of it.

With that said hell yeah super had some hot bull-shit roshi fucking retired by the time dragon ball z started and you telling me off-panel training was enough to get him to fight with the greatest warriors in their universe.......no bro, that is because toriyama just loves this old bastard and he wanted him there. Thats as far as it goes. If this stuff was to be taken seriously then goten and trunks would have replaced roshi and tien easily.....remember these 2 saiyan kids were the prodigy kids that was meant to save the world from majin buu.....straight up pulled super saiyan 3 during fusion out of their ass, even in their standard plain half-saiyan selfs they should be galaxies ahead of roshi and tien power level-wise.

For Cell, its because he is basically made of the best genetic components of everyone (though for some weird reason he also needs 17 and 18 instead of just having whatever it is they had pre-built-in). Best I can come up with is that maybe 17 and 18 were basically like a set of living energy reactors and Cell's larval form couldn't support having them from the get-go.

As for 17 and 18, best I can come up with is that he has access to alien technology when doing that and managed to mix it with some earth tech that it happened to mesh very well with, and put them together as just the next of his line of androids. He likely was also stealing stuff from Capsule Corporation, which is bananas advanced in some ways relative to even aliens. We see nothing like capsules among the aliens we see, and Bulma was able to build a time machine (Super was the one that added that there was a super-advanced energy-fuel substance refining necessary to power it, but its not like Gero's spybots don't have access to some serious tech between the insane yet pacifistic Capsule Corp + their improved saiyan style ship technology and whatever he managed to get from Frieza's ship).

But yeah, overall he really stepped it up by like 11 notches. Unless you count him showing up in a movie or two (non-canon) where he ends up making some weapon or another that lets him actually hold up against the heroes at that point in time (I think one of these ended with Goku having to resort to the spirit bomb against him/said weapon IIRC).

You mean Super Perfect Cell. But yeah, he apparently was somewhere at or slightly below SS2 Gohan's power before the latter got his arm broken. If he just melee'ed everyone instead of got into a beam o war, Cell would have won.

I always assumed that was because Goku wasn't powered up, he was relaxed.

I forgot when this was, but wasn't there a time some random robbers or something tried to attack, their power levels were 'About as strong as Freiza on Namek' and Goku was like "Yeah I guess the kids can play with them for a bit".

That was that one never-dubbed movie that featured Tarble, wasn't it? With those two former Frieza Force goons who chased him to Earth, and Goku ends up pitting Trunks and Goten against them.

I think Ultra Instinct in general is a bit of an outlier as a power up as it's not specifically gained by progressing through a bunch of Super Saiyan forms like most of Goku's other power-ups. Angels seem to have it by default and I think Gods of Destruction can gain it through training as well.

Saiyans and humans both seem be to able to train themselves towards it depending on the way they train so I can understand someone like Roshi being able to tap into it even though his power level didn't keep up with the others once Z began.
