I remember the topic for 1st episode on ce and everyone whether you are familiar with the manga or not pretty much everyone likes or loved it.

Then episode 2 came it's an absolute whiplash.

And before you ask, it's not just the animation. First ep they like put 2-3 chapters, and ep 2 they crammed 5 chapters into 20 minutes so the pacing is also terrible

It's meta scare factor because after the first episode you'd think junji ito could've had a good animation adaptation and to suddenly scare you with adventure game studio tier animation

from what we learned this is due to the second episode being done by another studio that explains why it feels off compared to it's first episode so sadly this didn't dodge the usual production issues anime industry is facing these days

After watching this episode and reading more about it all...Holy shit this is disappointing. Waiting 5 years for a bait and switch for a 4 episode show. This is really bad and not okay. I get animating in black and white is hard but um after delays I would've thought there would be more than 4 episodes and only 1 good episode. Jfc.

For what it's worth, I don't think I'd call it terrible.

The animation is a massive step down and looks outright awful at times (that beach running scene is genuinely embarrassing), but I still enjoyed the episode. I can understand the complaints about the pacing, but I think they did an alright job stitching the stories together in a semi-coherent way.

Idk. Maybe I'm too easy to please, but I'm still enjoying the show despite the big drop in quality.

I feel like if the entire thing was "passable yet flawed" it'd have been better than "awesome" for #1 followed by "flawed" for the rest of the episodes.

I've heard rumors that the studio for the 1st episode also worked on the 4th episode, but it's the Internet, so take that with a grain.

Most likely they were not actively working on it for those five years. I'm guessing much of that time was trying to secure backup studios to work on the remainder.

Still, I made this complaint when I made my other topic, but squeezing too many chapters into one episode, layering them on top of each other, kinda wrecks the pacing. Also we lose out on some scenes.

For example, in the Snail chapter I think it's important to establish that the guy who bullied the snail kid turned into a snail himself because he kept bullying the kid even after he turned. We got the bullying in the first episode, but it didn't follow up and then the bully just appears having already turned. At least they gave us the scene where the teacher turns.

Also I don't think it's necessary at all to do Jack-In-The-Box. It's pretty standalone and pretty goofy compared to the darkness of some of the others.

It will never cease to amaze me that these studios are willing to put out such dogshit. It's understandable that anything that runs without pause is going to have jank, which is why studios are trying to move away from that. Anything that has time to cook should never get that bad.

After waiting so long, it makes sense people would be mad. Unfortunately I cant tell them who to blame it on but someone is definitely at fault here, and we all just had to do our best when things imploded.
