180mph wind is stronger than all but the strongest tornadoes.

This was my concern in another topic. It's not just debris from the previous hurricane still be scattered about, leaving us in a dangerous situation, our water tables across the states are at capacity from these last 3-4 hurricanes. Helene wasn't the first, it was just the latest. Debby came and dropped a shit ton of water, Ernesto and Francine also dropped a shit ton of water. Then Helene came and did the same.

This is all in a 2 month span. It takes time for those water tables to level out and we just haven't had that time. When I brought this up a few days ago, there hadn't been any rain in 2-3 days, yet if you walk outside on the grass, it's still saturated. Yesterday it drizzled a bit, today it's been overcast, and I assume it'll start pouring either tonight or tomorrow sometime, but there's just not a lot you can do here.

Thankfully, the storm season is almost over, and while it has gone into late November sometimes and I believe even December, it'll hopefully stop after this storm and we'll get a chance to actually deal with the previous hurricanes, not the next.

Not only that, but the time lapse of weather is such that it almost looks as if Milton is lobbing rainstorms to florida ahead of it. Its very wet there right now.

Also, its going to hit land at high tide.

As a Floridian myself (albeit on the east coast, but in the path of the storm) let me tell you Im happy and surprised on how serious most people in my area are taking this storm despite the reports that by the time it reaches us (Daytona Beach) it will be significantly weaker.

Its certainly inconvenient, but it was nice to see long lines at gas stations and the grocery store. In the past Ive seen so many people just kinda blowing off impending threats to our area and then bitching about it afterward.

Im hopeful and perhaps a bit too optimistic that we wont see much in the way of serious structural damage to homes and business, but I am completely expecting a long time without power and for there to be a ton of fallen trees everywhere because weve already had so much rain lately that everything is extremely saturated.

Praying for Tampa area though. Ive seen estimates as high as 15ft of storm surge over there. That would be beyond catastrophic for the area. Also praying for our close neighbors here to the north in Flagler. Just recently was A1A (our beachside road) finally finished being repaired and the dunes restored after being wiped out in the last storm that found its way to us. Its supposed to be high tide when Milton passes us and puts us on its backside with the strongest winds shoveling the water downward into our beaches again along the east coast. Many are suspecting its going to once again see the beach completely flattened and A1A give way.

I have a friend right in the path of it, albeit at least a decent bit inland. I'm trying to convince him to evacuate, but I don't know that he's going to be able to.

Feel like going to Miami is smarter than going to Atlanta.

Apparently gas stations are out of gas hopefully they get refilled quick

At this point Key West is a safer bet than anything within 50 miles of Tampa.

i'm checking da florida 511 cameras and it isn't DAT bad some areas are better den others, just make sure you have extra gas on you if you can just in case

If you're stuck in the red I imagine you want to be as in-land as possible since that surge is what's the most dangerous.

I heard it's going to hit Tampa Wednesday at 8am and last to 2am. If that's right, that's 18 hours of hurricane for the city.

That 10-15' storm surge is nuts and I've heard they may be underestimating it.

Seems hard to imagine some wind sheer being able to affect something that monstrous but seems that is all that can lessen this thing now.

The issue there is it does nothing to lessen the storm surge which is the primary danger from what I've read.

It really depends entirely on just where the storm makes landfall. A landfall somewhere in Pinellas County could easily mean 10 feet more storm surge for Tampa Bay than a landfall further south, closer to Bradenton/Sarasota, would mean.
