To be fair I did have a little 30 minute break from 4 to 4:30, though 15 of those minutes were spent commuting from one job to the other. That's pretty much the only break I took today.

The fact that people feel like they need to work hours like that in order to even really survive is an indictment on society as a whole really

Hope the paycheck is worth it, that sounds horrible.

I got stuck at my job for 32 hours, twice. I'm not the only one, it happened to another co-worker before it happened to me. I asked why she didn't let me know and I would've covered some of it for her. Then when it happened to me she had quit.

I just had literally every one call out. I had to pull a double shift because we were short staffed. Then I was supposed to get 8 hours off and come back for another double shift. But no one showed up for my 8 hours off. I called everyone, and they all refused so I got stuck.

Then after the 32 hours were over, the next shift person tried calling out again(I had another 8 hours off before 1 more shift that evening). I had some very choice words for them and the manager. They agreed to come in and work for 4 hours... I told them to find someone else for the other 4 hours because I wasn't coming back till my scheduled time.

If they hadn't come in, I would've been stuck for 48, but thankfully I got away with just 32 and I came in late that night.

It happened again in a similar way, but instead of a call out, someone quit and I had to pull the 8 hours between my 2 double shifts again.

That's why I quit this place. I told them off and walked out, and told them to have fun covering my 30 hour shifts. But they did eventually reach out and ask me to come back on the condition that I will never be scheduled like that again. It's been a little over 2 years and it's been fine so far.

Eh, if you're working on call then that's not unreasonable. I remember doing 36 hours straight once. Worst on call shift I ever had.

Thankfully I got paid triple for the entire week on-call (very handy as I was saving for a house) and was told to take 3 days off the next week.

It coincided with a busy year so I think I ended up with an extra 9 days off that year. 40 days off was a bit much so I just spread it across the next year too.

I'm still net positive for time off, I have 14 days left to take off between now and 31/12/2024. Already asked for 5 days to carry over to the next year.

My point - if you can get overtime or TOIL, that's great! If you're working multiple jobs, ah fuck I had something to say but I guess it doesn't translate well to the US
