It's only corny when it's forced dialogue, like with Suicide Squad.

When it's something that's well written and interesting, then it's kind of mind expanding. Like Frisky Dingo, while not a movie, made the viewers ask, "Why is the show called Frisky Dingo?" Then in the final episode, it's revealed, and becomes an "oh shit!" moment.

Or if the movie is just the person's name, it's also fine. I only care when it's done in a heavy handed way. While it's not a movie, Fire Emblem might be the worst for it.

last time i remember a movie name-dropping the title was on The Wild Robot which i saw last friday.

i thought it was corny but in a delightful way since i loved that movie!

It depends. It probably doesn't happen, for the most part, because someone decided to name-drop the title. It's probably more frequently either:

1. The title was an existing trademark or just whatever the story is about (eg, they say "Batman" a whole lot in Batman (1989)).

2. Someone liked that line of dialog and changed the title to match it.
