It can motivate non-voters to vote though. IIRC that's even what happened with Roy Moore. His base didn't care about the pedophilia but a lot of other voters did.

Long story short this has always been the case for everything but broadcast television. Same for anything that's censored. It's only catering to advertisers that stays their hand.

They constantly accuse the Democrats of that sort of thing, so they do care on some level. The problem is that they believe only "bad" people would actually do it, so any accusations leveled at a Republican must be false.

The media and voters hold Democrats and Republicans to such different standards. I want to see Donald Trump grilled half as hard as Harris, but he won't be. He gets to say he has 'concepts' of a plan. he gets to say he'll cut the department of education without being pressed on what that means for education, and the problems it'll cause. He gets to skate by on abortion, without answering for women dying because they can't get the care they need. I just want ONE media outlet to grill the ever loving fuck out of him. But he'll just leave if they do. But he has a LOT to answer for and the media is going "Well that's just not him."

The idea that her strategy isn't effective when she's had both the largest small doner fundraising and the the fastest rise in approval rating in presidential candidate history in under 100 days is mind boggling.

The fact it was a special election throws it very into question. Doug Jones still got 270K more votes in 2020 when he lost to Tuberville. Previous Democratic losing nominees also got more than he did that year. Moore on the other hand got half of what Tuberville later would. If it weren't a special election I'd call you dead wrong.

Ultimately it comes down to Republicans not being held accountable for all the shit they do.

They've done nothing but try to make things shittier for everyday people and the voters and media just keep them propped up.

We eat up their made up scare stories, their constant whining about protecting freedoms while actively trying to take them away.

They've been complete shit and yet they still continue to hold more representation than not.

The state we are in says we are probably doomed long term anyway.

Maybe we pull this one out, i hope we do so that we can try to hold onto some good things for a little bit longer.

But I don't blame people for thinking things look bleak as fuck.

I've also had bad vibes for a couple of weeks now but I don't want to spend too much time going into it because 1) it isn't productive 2) I've been wrong and 3) I don't really want to spend my time doomposting and making others following in this topic stress over something that hasn't happened yet.

Mine has less to do with any sort of specific democratic strategy though and more to do with my current opinion of the American public being at an all time low.

The only reason for any mistaken assumption of a vibe shift is because Republicans are becoming ungodly confident. They don't have actual worries because they think they have it in the bag. They're just demeaning and bragging at this point, because they think all the polls are off by 8 in Trump's favor, and nothing will convince them otherwise. They think they're taking VIRGINIA AND NEW MEXICO.

Meanwhile Kamala could be up +10 Nationally and Dems would still be biting their nails if Kamala was +6 in Georgia.

That's just where the parties are at now. MAGA literally does not think they can lose so they have no fear.

For the record, the recent 'bad vibes' people have been feeling is largely a result of the GOP putting out tons of junk polls (and the media using those as a story for clicks). This is why they do it. They want you to feel defeated. Don't let yourself get suckered in by propaganda.

Which is of course internally logical if you believe that the previous election was "stolen" and have been eating up all the propaganda about Democrat schemes to steal this election too.

"Trump can only lose if they cheat" is not just an excuse they have prepared, it is a deeply held belief.

There's a lot of posturing and cognitive dissonance that goes into being a MAGA person. Most of them aren't nearly as confident as they claim. They wouldn't be putting out dozens of doctored polls if they were feeling good right now.

frankly i'm not feeling the doom at all. i was a bit queasy for a minute but i have a strong feeling about the general media read of the election being quite wrong in the direction of underestimating support for harris among previously disengaged voters.i'm totally willing to cop to being wrong if it ends up being really tight or trump wins, but i'm genuinely fairly sanguine about the dems' chances at the moment.

and i don't like the democrats. i think they're embarrassingly timid and assume a more conservative bent to their base than i think exists. i just feel like trump's campaign is flailing hard and kamala is doing good work as far as rhetoric goes.

i think we are generally on the same wavelength when it comes to the issues and our leftist leanings, so i say this as someone who is in that similar headspace: the reality is that high was never going to last. it was a confluence of events that sparked a groundswell of support for a surprise replacement candidate. BUT the job was done and now she's competitive and doing really quite well considering the circumstances.

i totally understand having quibbles with messaging strategies but i don't think that they have pivoted to a losing strat, we've just gotten far enough away from that initial surge of enthusiasm and far enough into the real hammering of the horserace narratives of late october that the tone has shifted.
