No accidents, no tickets, no claims, but my insurance has gone up 41% since last year!

I was PISSED and started shopping around for a new company.

They were even worse! 20-50% higher than my current company (State Farm).

What the hell?

Had to move back to Michigan from California. Need to get new coverage. Was with AAA and getting a year-long policy for around 1200. Go to AAA here and get quoted a six month policy (apparently the only possible choice here?) for 1800. Wtf!?

Never been in an accident. Perfect driver. Only had one ticket for expired registration that was immediately rectified by buying a new car (couldn't pass the smog check no matter how many places I took it to get looked at).

Rep said it was because Michigan is a "No Fault" state, but that's over twice as much as I was paying in the most expensive state in the country!

A little, moving between provinces, but that's just because the interprovincial rewrite has reset the discount we got for using the evaluation app Allstate has. Presuming we can get the same discount again (which is likely), I'm expecting my rate to go down a bit once the evaluation period passes.

Sold my car in 2022 for more than I had anticipated, and the lack of further taxes and insurance is very pleasing. I already did not drive much anymore so in terms of gas (far more expensive in the Netherlands than in the USA, the tax on it is far higher than the actual fuel) it wasn't a big deal anymore. License expired this spring.

Mine has gotten cheaper.
But I also don't get a choice in provider. We're slightly communist that way. But it has benefits. Age and gender are not allowed to be factors. So my insurance at 17 was the same as an adult with no driving history. And with 30 years accident free, my discount is huge. And if people stop having accidents, they send us refunds.
But it also means a crazy amount of weight is put on the car you drive instead. So somehow they expect me to write off my forte every 2 years. Says a lot about kia forte drivers.

At that point, isn't it cheaper just to save up in the off chance you have an accident? IDK how much a ticket for driving without insurance is, but i imagine it's cheaper than that...

Many places won't legally allow you to drive without at least basic insurance. So you don't actually have that choice.

More recently, insuring Kias affected by the whole "you can just break the startup lock off and start the car with any metal rectangle" thing has become particularly expensive due to the high risk of theft, but I'm not sure if that's a factor for yours.

It probably would be if I was still in what they call zone 1. Which is the capitol city. I am zone 2 now, so rural. My insurance is half or less.
But because it is communist, they can force us to get extra immobilizers added to our cars. Which thankfully I keep narrowly dodging. I had 1 car with it. And yeah, it failed often. I did figure out if I avoided the remote starter, it stopped having issues. But it sucked losing the remote starter when half the year its -30c here. My wife wrote the car off though. In a classic car vs SUV crash. SUV was decimated. My car had a slightly bent bumper. But having no floor left, hail damage, no rockers. The cars value was $0 anyways. So I got $1500 for the crash.
