Well Im a western junkie who really likes Rockstar games so Id say yes but there is a fair amount of people who dont care for Rockstar and their style gameplay.

I enjoyed the characters and settings though. While the Redemption games were a stark departure from Red Dead Revolver and the story mode duels I think they made the right choice.

I know you are talking about the first Redemption game and while I loved it I think RDRD2 is the best game Ive ever played and Ive been gaming regularly since 1980. The world they created was the most beautiful Ive ever played in. Stunning series.

I think its at least worth trying but it might not be for you.

It was pretty good at the time, and despite all the improvements RDR2 made, RDR1 is still a better story in many ways. Spent many hours getting mauled by cougars, playing the multiplayer poker, and doing Gaptooth Breach events, but I think the latest remaster cut some of that stuff out...so that's not very appealing.

The first game was really great.

I bounced off the second because of some of the weird "realism" mechanics but I should really try again.

Second one did take me a bit to get used to with all the immersion shit but once I got the hang of it I was hooked.

Still my all time favorite game.

The first game is a bit dated, but it was a fun time for the most part. A few mechanics that rarely pop up like cattle herding which really drag down sections, but it's very solid.

The second game is a masterpiece....and I got so bored with how tedious it plays that I didn't get very far into it. It's realistic to a fault. When it takes a good three seconds or so to loot a body and there's ten bodies after every shootout, that gets a bit old.

I only played half of the first game and tbh it actually REALLLY pulls at your heart strings. I was surprised at the ending.

When I was still playing and well now watching it many times on youtube some repetition fetch shit could irk me. But it was a story of the west.

I don't even remember if RDR2 was a prequel. But yea just RDR was wild.

First one was fun but very much felt like wild west GTA.

RDR 2 is... like something else. I normally don't have as much patience for long drawn out experiences but there's something different about it. The world feels so alive, you feel like a real person in the world and not just a character, the music is amazing, it's beautiful. It is almost like playing a movie, in a good way.

I'd recommend both.

I know crunch comes up with RDR2, also I don't need my immersion to be too real.

I am not sure why I dropped out on RDR1 back then. I think the last thing I did in it was playing poker in Mexico.

Guess that's why i wasn't as into it; i liked the devil may care ride around doing whatever gta vibe the first had, i didn't want a cowboy sim

I'd also just add that I didn't find the "simulation" stuff in RDR2 to be overwhelming. It's not like a lot of games where you're just wasting twenty hours gathering logs and stone to build something. At worst you're gathering up some herbs and plants for perks but even this is optional.

It's just a slower paced game than what a lot of studios put out these days.

Plays different and much more fast paced than RDR2 because it doesn't have the sim elements. It definitely is one of my favorite rockstar games and holds just as big of a place in my heart as 2. I still don't know if I prefer John or Arthur and I think I liked the stranger missions a bit more in 1.

Still like others said you might find it dated. I'm waiting for the PC version to come down to below 30.

How much does it penalize you for not taking care of your horse or making sure to change your clothes in different environments? I read something about you actually losing stamina or health and I wasn't sure how to get it back.

iirc "taking care of your horse" was like giving it an apple and brushing it every few real life hours.

The clothes changing mechanic is introduced very early on in the game and feels like it's going to feature prominently throughout the game... until it doesn't. And it's also a matter of just accessing the pack on your horse to remove or add clothing.

A lot of the stuff I saw complaints about, like "omg you have to shave and take baths" was really, really overrated just because it happens so infrequently.

I hated the second one. You get a bounty on your head for breathing on someone too hard. Felt like I couldn't do shit without having to pay a bunch of money. Then my horse died for no reason and I deleted it.

Yeah, from what I remember of what I played, the maintenance stuff isn't that big a deal. Like you have to clean your horse, but running through water counts as cleaning it.

The bigger issue for me was just that every single thing in the game has an animation attached to it. Like in a normal game, you go to a cabinet, hit a button, and you get whatever's in it. In RDR2, Arthur will literally take every lootable item out one by one. Skinning large animals has a full twenty second animation. Swapping weapons means you have to take them on and off your horse.

And then the missions themselves aren't amazing either because R* has gone backwards in terms of mission design. It's just press forward on a horse while listening to story dialogue, do a shoot-out, then press forward on a horse.

When it came out in 2010, I really wanted to play it. Hoping it would come out on Wii U years later. I'm so glad it came out on Switch last year. . I played it for the first time and I beat it a few months ago. I think it's my game of the year..

I like the story.

really hoping GTA6 would do something new in terms of gameplay and i'm not talking about adding more crate-moving, lawn-mowing, yoga exercise minigames

You really aren't missing much. I thought it was as boring as GTA 4, which this basically is, just with a wild west setting. Story is meh. Gameplay is stiff and unsatisfying. Too much dialogue in between missions when I just wanted to shoot things. Forgettable characters. Takes forever to get anywhere. Vast as an ocean, deep as a puddle.

Why this game gets so much praise baffles me.

Its always on my list of games to play, but I never really get around to playing it. Ill probably never play the first one, but I do want to check out the second one one of these days. I did a little bit of it, but I didnt really have time to get immersed in such a deep and involved game so I dipped out. Now its not on game pass so Ill have to wait until its on sale or something.

Both RDR games are examples of Rockstar having the worst and most boring shooting mechanics ever. Just tap L1 and R1 over and over and kill every enemy with instant headshots. Boring.

First one at least felt like a video game and was fairly fun. Second one just felt like an endless cutscene interspersed with the dogshit shooting.
