Where does it end? It doesn't end with computers inside our bodies. We're already there. Anybody have a pacemaker? It doesn't end when they seize our infrastructure. We're already there. They control our communications, energy generation and distribution, supply chain, long-distance travel... It doesn't end with neural nets replacing humans. We're already there. ChatGPT helped me find my wallet the other day, in minutes, after Mrs. Devsman and I spent hours looking. It doesn't end when we serve the machines instead of vice-versa. We're already there. How many of you have had to plug in your phone in the last week? Where does it end? I'll tell you where it ends. It ends when they stop. Maybe a solar flare does it. Maybe the resources run out. Highly effective malware? Who knows? Somehow there are no more computers. This is where it ends. We can no longer communicate over distance. We can no longer produce food or medicine on a large scale. We can no longer transport goods. We can no longer generate energy. In an instant, it's a preindustrial society again. Why don't we make more computers? We can't. We are incapable of making the computer of tomorrow without the computer of today. Human hands are not remotely precise enough to manipulate tools at nanometer scales, or even micrometer scales. Only the best of us can even handle millimeter scales. At best, we start over with ENIAC, if somehow we find a way to power it. Ladies and gentlemen, the computers are not the enemy. The computers are the tablecloth beneath all of humanity's fine china. It all ends with a slow tug. --- Arguing on CE be all like: https://youtu.be/JpRKrs67lOs?si=kPGA2RCKVHTdbVrJ ... Copied to Clipboard!
