This. Other peoples' takes on video games is something I least care about.

This. The Action 52 episode is a masterpiece, and has some of the funniest one liners that over a decade later still make me giggle when they pop into my head.

Though it makes me sad to think of the current state of AVGN. It hasn't been great in so long now, that it seems as if it will just slowly sizzle out, and go out with a whimper one day. It's not terrible these days, but it definitely feels like it's running on life support.

Edit: The only 2 episodes that I would call straight out bad though are Toxic Crusaders and the Odyssey. Any console videos from him are top tier, but the Odyssey one is unwatchable for me. Also honorable mention to the Ghostbusters episode when he goes on the convoluted rant about the requirements for the stairway segment on the NES game .

Because I've never given a shit about his style of presentation or content, and nothing about him ever appealed to me.

I've also never watched a single episode of the Game Grumps, or anyone from Channel Awesome (other than Todd in the Shadows). If you're in your 30s, I guarantee most of the things you consider to be formative experiences or must-watch content is stuff that never really meant anything to me. That's one of those things that happens when you're at least a decade older than most of the other people immersed in online culture.

Also, I've gone the past 30 years on the Internet, thank you very much. I was telnetting into BBSes in the mid-90s!

Honestly, the only gaming YouTubers I've ever really watched at all was Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter back before they became shit, and the Yogscast more recently. And maybe Outside Xbox/Xtra, but I almost don't consider them gaming YouTubers, as much as they're most list-makers and reviewers who occasionally play games.

And I avoid Twitch like the motherfucking plague.

AVGN has been making videos for about 20 years, but I don't think he really got popular for a few years and reached the height of his popularity in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

But having not seen him before is like not having heard the Beatles before, he inspired A LOT of people in various ways.

Nah. Having not heard of him might be like having never heard of the Beatles, but in a mass media world where there is more content than any single human being could hope to watch even across multiple lifetimes, having not seen any specific thing isn't all that meaningful

But I have heard of him, and am aware of what he does. Just like I'm aware of the Beatles.

Though that might be a better analogy than you realized, because I also hate the Beatles.

yeah he definitely watches him, look at him flounder trying to deny it

I can't help it, I'm a huge Castlevania fan, so I love his CV episodes because you can feel the love with him, especially in IV's.

Dr jekyll and Mr Hyde one I guess for all the hilarity it inspired after. If I remember correct wasn't that the game he considered worst of all of them?

Probably the Terminator one. That was around the time I started watching him, so that was the first episode I saw when it was new.

Action 52 or whatever is was called. 52 shitty games in one cartridge.

I liked the battletoads episode best. I like that Justin kyle, the theme song guy, is in it and they are funny together and capture the frustration of 2 player toads.

Also, anything with bootsy, like board James, is good.
