Okay, I just have to share this. I was walking through a park today when I saw a sign that said, Do Not Enter. The Goose Will Attack. No further explanation, just that ominous warning.

Naturally, I had to stop and stare at it for a while. What kind of goose are we talking about here? Is this some legendary park goose thats taken down too many unsuspecting joggers? Or is it just a regular goose with a bad attitude?

Has anyone else seen weird or oddly specific warning signs like this? Also, whats the deal with geese being so terrifying in general

When I was 4-5, my dad would take me to this resort or something with shitloads of ducks and geese. (My dad was a landscaper and would have to babysit me at times because my mom worked the graveyard shift) I loved the ducks and geese, but boy did those geese love to chase me. They bit me in the back of the head and pigtails a few times, as well, IIRC (I was a fucking 4yo. Those geese were nearly as tall as I was. No way they're bothering with the typical goose butt-bite when my head is easier to reach.)
That said, I can't really blame the geese. They probably had to deal with a lot of children-- many of them far more annoying than I ever was. Also, probably wasn't a great idea for my dad to give me a bunch of bread to feed the waterfowl.

Geese have always doubled as watchdogs.

I was walking through some canadian geese once when one of the objected. I realized I was surrounded by them. I looked down at my feet and the objection ceased.

After that I have taken care to walk around geese.

An LUEser once got diarrhea after crashing on a HS football field and getting a mouth full of goose-poopy mud.
Well, actually he hadn't reached the diarrhea stage yet when he made the topic. He was still at the abdominal cramping stage.

I much prefer the story of the LUEser who had worms at a Walmart. LUE freaked out over that, LOL. And for the next 2 weeks, any time an LUEser suffered from abdominal cramping or diarrhea, they feared that they might have worms. So they did the most logical thing, and posted a topic about it on LUE.
Oh, I added fuel to the fire Hyena-style by posting a bunch of endoscopic images of worms in colons. The guy with the worms did NOT appreciate that.

I've never had a goose attack me. Every time a goose has looked hostile, I gave it a scritch and it calmed down.

Same. Over the summer I befriended a Canadian Goose that nests in the pond near where I live that I affectionally named "Smeagol", since he'd always run up to me and hiss before I fed him. At first I thought he was just being an aggressive little butt, until started eating out of my hand, and I realized hissing is apparently how he's greeting me.

A few weeks later, the big guy brought over his mate (who I named Deagol), who while never eating out of my hand, still let me feed her - and a few weeks after that - he brought over his mate and two goslings.

Sadly one of the goslings died when it was still a baby, but the other managed to survive and grow up to adult hood. The little guy bonded with me pretty fast, and would be the first one behind Smeagol to get fed when I'd walk up to them. The little guy - who I named Precious, obviously - lets me pet him as well when he eats, he's got literally no fear of me since he's been around me for literally his entire life. It actually got to the point where Smeagol started letting me pet him too, though Deagol still wants nothing to do with me outside of the food.

The trio migrated with another flock a week or so ago, so I'm hoping they survive the migration, and when they return in the spring, they recognize me and I can pick up where I left off with them. Until then, I've also got a trio of ducks and a swan that I've also befriended. The ducks'll eat out of my hand, but the swan is still hesitant, though she comes up to me as soon as she sees me to get her daily snackage of seeds.
