God I wish I could get mine out, but I can't afford it. I really hate being afraid all the time. There's a serial rapist in my area right now and it's a fucking nightmare to live in terror that someone's going to break into your house and destroy your life. I'm in one of the "no abortions ever for any reason" areas so if the worst case scenario happens, fml.

Provided the fact that their account was made in 2001 and if they are actually a woman, they probably already went through menopause though
You think that menopause happens around mid-30s? Odd. Also, judging by your perspective on what constitutes "mutilating your body", you'll be shocked to hear how pregnancy and childbirth can operate.

More importantly, congrats Jen!

  1. There wont be any such thing as safe sex once the new administration outlaws contraception.
  2. Its not mutilation. Its a medical procedure.

If she knows she doesnt want kids, then why shouldnt she do it? Eliminates a lot of risks the government wants to force upon women.

Realistically, a hormonal IUD offers similar contraception rates to a tubal ligation/ectomy, but that relies on a hormonal IUD being available. With the SC having already overtly said they're looking at striking down the decisions that guarantee the right to birth control and many evangelicals and other pro-lifers getting their panties in a knot over what they consider to be "abortive birth control" (a largely made-up term, but IUDs are often lumped into it because people believe they stop implantation of a fertilized embryo instead of preventing fertilization, despite the fact that that's pretty rare), there's a pretty substantial chance that getting an IUD might end up being difficult in some states within the next few years.

For those that know they don't want kids and live in a state where the future availability of non-surgical birth control is in question, sterilization is practicing safe and responsible sex.

Kind of crazy how they attack it at every level, all the way down to sex education. My cousin thinks that they want unwanted high birth rates because that's the only way to sustain our economy without immigration.

Humans are alright but they keep doing the fascism thing, it really can't be helped. Not brave enough to move on past liberal democracy and not smart enough to avoid collapsing it. I think I'll be reincarnated as something else an eternity from now.

Also the more kids people have, the harder it is to support those families and the less effective the education system can be, and republicans generally do better among poorer, less educated voter bases. Part of it is a puritan "oh noes sex is evilbad" and a genuine belief that making birth control and sex ed less effective satisfies the moral imperative to discourage people from having sex (plus wanting to see women punished for having sex by having to endure a pregnancy), but at a policy level, appealing to that puritanism is mostly for the benefits a larger population has for those in power.

As with every type of surgery, whether or not it is considered "mutilation" depends entirely on context. The medical definition of mutilation is the unnecessary removal or altering of a body part.

As just one example, the hysterectomies inflicted on the intellectually impaired or those with mental conditions in the early 20th century were very much mutilation by today's standards.

Yeah, that's a risk with my IUD too. At least if I removed my tubes, I'm not at risk of losing my primary form of birth control if it becomes illegal.

Today? Yes, of course - thankfully nobody forced me.
Do you enjoy sex and consider the possibility of pregnancy? Having control over such things is a rather important freedom in my books. If you want to have a sexless life, or a life where you get sex but also have to pump out kids - ok that can be your freedom. Safe sex is effective, but definitely in the 99% region. I don't want to let politicians decide that 1% of times.

For those that suck at nuance, abortion bans and the like don't literally force women to be pregnant against their will, no (though if there aren't appropriate provisions for emergency contraception or abortions in the case of rape, that's functionally the same thing), but they do force women to endure a higher risk of pregnancy than they would otherwise need to face for a given level of sexual activity. Essentially, they amount to the government threatening women with pregnancy/childbirth they can't escape if they don't change their lifestyles, which is quite unambiguously authoritarian.

Is that literally "the government forcing women to become pregnant"? No. Is there any reason to make the distinction outside of masturbatory pedantry and/or pro-life/misogynist trolling? Also no.

I certainly do enjoy it, but being that I am menopausal, and on birth control, I'm not really concerned about the possibility of pregnancy.

If I did have an unexpected pregnancy I would definitely hope to carry it to term again, and I've always known that pregnancy is a possibility when you have sex because I took sex ed in elementary school.

Certainly not only for procreation, but procreation is certainly always a possibility. Having sex without the intent to get pregnant does not eliminate the possibility of becoming pregnant on its own. Did you not know that? Because I have known that since I was pretty young...
You're menopausal but you'd carry a pregnancy?

You're fucking condescending lol, everyone here knows that sex has a possibility of pregnancy. You can can it in that regard. You yourself utilize various methods of birth control, and then want to explain to others who utilize birth control that pregnancy is possible? We know. Nobody is forcing you to have sex, and you may become pregnant. Nobody is forcing anyone else here to have sex, and they may become pregnant. Thusly, they are utilizing another method of birth control.

Sounds a lot more sensible than thinking you're going to carry a child during menopause, jesus christ lmfao.
