Glad to see our government are focusing on the important matters. Yet it was apparently fucking Harris who focused too much on trans people. The American electorate are a joke. This is especially insidious given that the first trans member of Congress was elected this year.

The GOP is obsessed with a group of people that make up like less than half a percent of the population

I still have no idea how this gets implemented IF it ever became a law.

Like, some person with a full on beard is supposed to use the Woman's room because they haven't fully transitioned yet?

Yes, this is what they want, though I have seen some argue that all trans people should use the male restroom regardless of whether MtF or FtM

Yeah, trans people (especially trans women) are not allowed to respond to anything said against them or they will be portrayed as the aggressors.

Johnson is signaling a desire to quietly bury this bill and "work it out".

Have fun with that when you look McBride and other freshmen in the eye as you swear them in.

They can just call it the Anti Sarah McBride Act and it'd be far more honest.

The anger comes from never having to face the people they want to oppress. And when they do, they don't know how to act properly except go through what they already intended to do.

They say they can always tell and I think some believe they can.

But the real aim is to cause a chilling effect. Give bigots an excuse to go ballistic on anyone who 'looks' trans, normalize harassment of anyone not obeying gender norms, and send a message to trans people that they're not welcome and they're not safe.

The GOP lives off the malicious assumption that every trans person is just lying in wait to abuse their bathroom preferences.

To be honest, I don't think the right has even processed the concept of trans men yet. They've built up this hateful fantasy that transgender people are all just men pretending to be women so they can sneak into women's restrooms and perv on little girls. It'd probably melt their little brains to see laws like this directly resulting in unambiguously masculine people being forced into women's restrooms.

They've built up this hateful fantasy that transgender people are all just men pretending to be women so they can sneak into women's restrooms and perv on little girls. It'd probably melt their little brains to see laws like this directly resulting in unambiguously masculine people being forced into women's restrooms.

No, most of them know full well that this will happen. The point isnt to protect women, its to make trans people feel unsafe and unwelcome. Forcing trans men into the womens room accomplishes that.

Call me naive, but I still don't believe the average right-winger is that actively malicious. They're ignorant, and buy into the stories about all the "threats" they need to thwart, but they're not actually giddy about the notion of bullying innocent people out of existence. Some are, sure, and too many by far. But most just want to protect their loved ones, and have been tricked into thinking the trans community is a threat.

To put it another way, as the saying roughly goes, don't attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. Their hate stems from fear and a lack of critical thinking. They would be stunned to see the broader ramifications of their choices - in this case, ramifications like trans men being legally forced into the women's restroom.

it absolutely is malice on the part of lawmakers. They know trans men who are forced to use a womans bathroom are going to be subject to violence from men who think theyre protecting their daughter/wife/whoever from a man in the womans bathroom

Okay so what's the actual bad news bill they're going to try to sneak through while everyone's talking about this
