Good question, not sure of the answer. When you spend as lavishly as he does while happily reaping the benefits of your rich father at every opportunity and socialism is nothing but a way to raise more money for you then I think it's fine to question commitment and anything Hasan actually does for it.

I used to believe all the crap haters said about Hasan too until I started watching him.
Not sure where they get the shit they say about him but he's pretty level headed and has informed takes that are good.

What would have to be different about the situation for socialism to be "more than" a part of Hasan's branding? I'm genuinely asking. If the question is whether his belief in socialism is real or opportunistic, well, in the first place, surely the market has demonstrated that preaching right-wing hustler pro-capitalism ideology is way easier & more profitable.

I just don't see what part of Hasan running a successful business proves he isn't a "real socialist" or whatever the standard is. That Hasan found a niche to sell doesn't really mean much, especially when he does so much to radicalize his listeners away from actual electoral politics.

It feels like you're arbitrarily setting a standard for people who identify as socialists where if they're not doing Bernie Sanders (IE the most successful socialist-identifying American politician) -level work for their ideology while rejecting any personal wealth then they must be fake about it. It just seems like a clearly impossible standard to meet, especially because not everyone is cut out for electoral politics, which people who do well in streaming probably are not.

Hasan isn't some innocent smol bean, he's a mega millionaire with powerful connections by virtue of birth. I'm not asking him to be Eugene debs, I am asking him to not platform authoritarian terrorists and do a bit more.

There have been great writers of socialist theory, socialist organizers, socialist advocates. He doesn't really do any of that.

I think socialism is good when it's led by working class people and not just by rich people who are disconnected from those realities, honestly. In fact, those are the most successful forms of the movement. Hasan talks, disconnects and goes to an uber lavish lifestyle while never once doing more for any movement.
