I missed this because I already played it months ago on my Deck, but Deadly Premonition 2 is down to $4. I wouldn't say the story compares evenly with the gonzo Twin Peaks-inspired heart of the first game, but it's worth four smackers at least. Difficulty's probably a little easier, too, if that was somehow a barrier for someone.
i heard that the second takes more inspiration from True Detective than Twin Peaks this time. which sounds like something i'd like too, but yeah, i don't see how even that could compare to what the original game was.

Really good.

4 is the best one for single player. 3 and 5 are decent. 5 is a bit boring for single player but customizing your own weapons is a lot of fun. I've been playing survival mode in 5 lately and having a lot of fun. It's 4 person drop-in co-op against waves of enemies.

Concur with this.

5's campaign felt like a step back after 4's, though the Invasion mode ( like Watch Dogs) was fun

Yeah, the original is a perfect storm of imperfect podunk silliness and it somehow all works out. Well, I guess the PC port of DP1 is notoriously finnicky, but DP2 doesn't have those problems, thankfully.

Also the original Darkest Dungeon, which I think is a game super worth it at full price, is under 3 bucks right now. Get that if you don't have it!

So, I ended up buying Salt 2 and Fields of Mistria.

Salt 2 seems like a decent, single-player Sea of Thieves with a lot less polish I suppose, but it's also much easier on the file size, like 2GB vs SoT's 100GB+.

Fields of Mistria has a kind of, 80 - 90s anime vibe going for it, akin to Stardew conceptually, one of those cosy farming games.

If my washing machine hadn't broken down recently, I'd probably have picked up I Am Future, Planet Crafter & Littlewood as well, but it is what it is.

After a little digging, the Euro game has twelve countries available by default (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, UK; and small parts of France and Italy) while the American base game has a paltry three states (CA, NV, AZ).

Someone made a Google map to represent DLC packs in the Steam forums:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/227300/discussions/0/1777136225028155058/

Might have to pick some of this stuff up for Winter Sale.

Were I feeling charitable, I'd say certain states are bigger than entire European countries (especially Luxembourg), so maybe the semi-limited geography won't ruffle prospective buyers. I just didn't expect them to launch with three-fiftieths of the Union as the "base". No idea what they'd do with non-contiguous states, or if they'd put other places in the Americas in there eventually.

So imo...

Euro Truck Simulator gives you more in the vanilla game, whereas with ATS they only released one or two states at launch and the rest have been released as expansion packs. So you have to pay more to get more in ATS.

Also I don't know if they fixed it, but with Euro Truck Simulator there'd be clear indicators that a speed change was occurring and it was easier to avoid speeding fines. In ATS I felt like I would get fined because the speed limit would just jump from 55 to 45 with minimal warning and then bam I was tagged. Very obnoxious. TL;DR ETS was better in this regard.

Otherwise they're pretty similar games.

OK I'll ask here. How's FarCry 5? It's freaking five dollars. I know it's an Ubisoft game and they are EA bad at this point. But I considered trying a Far Cry game before in the past but just never decided to pull the lever on one. I wouldn't mind fumbling around in an open world with some quests if it's amusing somewhat and fun.

Good but it grinds after a while. The gameplay just doesn't change enough over the course of the game. Probably still worth it just to play it until you get bored at that price, as the game is very fun while it's fresh.

Haha thanks. Just people I think liked the first Assasin's Creed. I don't think I'll get it, but I should try some games on my laptop with WHOAH nice graphics. It coulda been the one. Back to science adventure visual novels or Omori it is.

One last shot for Far Cry 5. I thought 3 was universally liked and the cult shit for 5 does seem to have at surface value intrigue.

As cool of a flex that would be, even if all the DLC was $1 each, it would probably still come out to $761. The Skylines DLC came out to $100, which is a lot more reasonable.

Far Cry 5 is one of the best in the series. They streamlined a lot of the collectathon BS so you have more focused side missions. The world looks beautiful. There are good aircraft to use. There's a cool buddy for hire system where you can recruit people to fight with you (and there are unique ones who have special perks that complement certain playstyles). And the XP/skill progression is based on completing challenges.

Ultimately it's one of a few FPS games that actually made me WANT to experiment with different playstyles and have fun doing it and get rewarded for it.

Far Cry 4 is also a solid game. Far Cry 2, while older and more rough around the edges, has a lot more grit and interesting detail to it that was lost in the later games. Far Cry 3 hasn't aged well imo, and Far Cry 6 is trash.

edit: Only thing that moderately sucks about Far Cry 5 is forced story progression at a few points in the game, which I think was a universally hated mechanic but I think the effect was also very overrated.
