Evergrace, anyone?

Eternal Ring was underrated, imo. Very tough, but fun

I never heard of them before Demon's Souls

No, my entire conception of them before Souls was "those guys that made a billion Armored Core games". Didn't realize they were the same people until years after I got into Souls, lmao.

Evergrace was such a weird game man. Never did get around to beating it.

Another game of theirs that formed my taste in games and I had no idea it was them until years after I got into Souls.

Truly From was my guiding moonlight all along.

I had no idea they also made that game, my buddies and I used to play that game vs mode , it was fun.

I only knew them for Armored Core (and to a lesser extent Metal Wolf Chaos) before Souls took off and people went "hey Kings Field exists!"

No, never knew about Evergrace or Kingsfield until recently. I knew From Software as the company that made the best action mech games. Between them and SquareSoft (Front Mission), I was in Mech heaven from the PS1 to PS2.

Lost Kingdoms on GameCube was my first encounter with From, it was a damn good underrated gem.

Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2 were very good the low review scores are usually based on the difficulty of managing your cards and having to replay the levels to obtain what you missed. I don't like any of the games they have made besides Demon Souls the rest feel like downgrades after Demon Souls

AC was always awesome, tenchu I thought was alright but always felt like it was missing the polish it needed to shine too much from jank for proper ninjaing imo, rented it like 3 times tho

I had this really obscure PS1 "horror" game that had the most primitive graphics called Echo Night when I was a kid. Didn't think the people behind it would end up making Elden Ring.

Eh, I knew them for Lost Kingdoms and Tenchu. Both of which were great.

It's mostly now that people like to pretend that they were a hidden gem for old RPGs. No one played their older RPGs at all.

I knew them from awesome Armored Core games.

Eh, I wouldn't count them for Tenchu, personally. The first 2 games were developed by Acquire. Then K2 became the developer and From Software bought the publishing rights. They only developed 2 of the 9 games in the series.

I knew them more from Armored Core and didn't realize they were the same people that made crummy games like Enchanted Arms

I wish they'd make another horror game. They've shown they're still plenty capable of making oppressive environments, creepy enemies, and a combat system where you can fight back but combat is still risky.

Metal Wolf Chaos is better than any of the Souls games. So is Otogi.

Every Kings Field game is terrible. I have no idea how they managed to make Demons Souls.

True, but it's still a personal quantification. I played their Tenchu as a kid and never heard of the others so when I hear "Tenchu" I think of their game.

Seeing Lost Kingdoms 1 in Nintendo Power is what made me want a GameCube, Id love to see From bring it back

You guys have to remember, the series started as super niche "weird" game you had to import (if you lived in the West). The import sales convinced publishers to localize the game.

FromSoft has always made weird RPGs going back to the 90's. Souls is arguably still a weird RPG.

Nobody would have a expected that a recontextualiziation of Pen and Paper RPGs as a Japanese action game would be such a hit.

The first Dark Souls was the first time I'd paid them even a single bit of attention

Loved Eternal Ring and actually Kings Field 4. Also Armored Core which I thought was Agetec.

Yup. The voices being in English and most of the regions having an English translation option for the menus made it easy to do.

No, I knew them for Echo Night which was pretty neat imo

Enchanted Arms was my introduction to them. I played Kings Field way back when but it's not like I thought oh it's a From Software game. I just thought of it as some early Playstation game that felt really clunky and took up a whole memory card or (close to it).

Kings Field games were janky but awesome for the PS1 era. I can definitely understand why people didn't like those games though.
