or a level C employee in general

how easy would you say it is to get the job of being the CEO or CFO in Chevron for example

I dont think the chances are very high if that average joe grew up poor or working class but. maybe im wrong?

I would imagine this is true.

Getting a good job and climbing out of poverty is possible for people who arent born into privilege, though its not purely down to hard work. But even if you manage that, youll often find you hit a ceiling somewhere, and the people above that ceiling have spent their whole lives there.

One of the least favourite aspects of my job is babysitting the son of the CEO for our biggest client who has a high level management position and thinks every one of his ideas is so brilliant that I should feel lucky to hear them.

I spend a lot of time hating this man, thinking "my god, you have no talent or skill or experience, and yet I have to treat you like a Prince, because you basically are one".

This. The probability of the average Joe becoming this rich executive is incredibly low. It's pretty akin to those who think they are going to be a star or become the next Mr Beast.

Sure it's possible, but I hope you didn't quit your day job thinking it's guaranteed to happen.

realistically 0%

Not to say it's impossible, but you would have to essentially invent the position for yourself, there is no amount of "hard work" that gets you a C-suite promotion in an existing company.

Pretty much zero if you dont make a name for yourself throughout whatever industry youre in and are looking to apply for.

But that could take decades even. And youd likely have to start your own successful company in order to get your foot near the door.

^that would definitely be hard to do for an average joe because to even start a successful company, you need a lot of capital to get it going which im sure the average person doesnt have the money for

and im sure that same person will have difficulty getting VCs to fund it or getting business loans to fund said company

and theres no guarantee of that company being successful even if you work towards it for several years

Of a Chevron type organization, nearly 0% just because there are so few slots.

Of a fairly successful company, if you made it your goal and took the courses and did the things starting when you were 20, like 5-10%.

I know someone that just got promoted to C-level of a billion dollar company and they did not come from any exorbitant privilege, but it took them a decade with the company and they were earmarked on hiring as a future executive more or less.

It's not easy, but I'd say it's doable.

---

Steps:

  1. Join the military
  2. Get your degree in a field that executives typically have.
  3. Apply to be an officer.
  4. Spend 20-odd years climbing the officer ranks to Colonel or better.
  5. Retire from the military and send out your resume to defense and defense-related businesses.
  6. Success.

There are ways to increase your chances, but it's still close to zero if you aren't already born in privilege, or banging someone of privilege.

Part of corporate America is salvaging dumb executives ideas until something that won't fuck shit up, then pretending you did their idea.

This. My husband is one step away from C suite (senior Vp reporting to the CIO). He has worked for decades, has patents, wrote a book, & has done speaking engagements. It takes a lot of work & determination plus some luck to get there.

There are some logical steps to take to make it easier to get into a top level position.

become a doctor or lawyer etc. as an absolute minimum. Next you need to apply for some sort of public office or position

after that its just pray
