I fucking hated how spells eventually devolved into being bolts of energy that people shoot at each other That sucks. Spells were things that actually did specific stuff to people, not random beams of light that make you fly back 4 feet and groan in pain. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. http://i.imgur.com/ILz2ZbV.jpg ... The problem is having a fully magical society with their own bureaucracy and MI5 type people, you can't really use magic to do anything sneaky because of anti magic fortifications and, just like the real UK they track everything you do --- https://imgur.com/gallery/dXDmJHw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75GL-BYZFfY ... GiftedACIII posted... That was mostly the movies right? I recall there still being some crazy spells in the battles of the last few books. Mostly the movies but the books fell into it too. Maybe it was just harry's perspective of it, but battles had a lot of beams of light flying around, blowing up bits of wall and knocking people over. Which to me makes no sense if you know how to do magic. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. http://i.imgur.com/ILz2ZbV.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

Sephiroth_C_Ryu posted... Pretty accurate, really. Counterspelling was introduced almost explicitly to deal with "auto-hit" spells. Since she's so bad at it, I think Rowling should have shifted away from trying to make a hard magic world that followed some kind of internal logic and instead just gone full ghibli and made battles about random spells that changed the environment and reality and shit. That would have been cool. Like Dumbledore's fight with Voldemort had so many incredibly interesting spells in it, and then everyone else is just like...pew pew pew. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. http://i.imgur.com/ILz2ZbV.jpg ... It's true. Dumbledork vs Voldemort had some insanely high level transfiguration and other types of spells used and that was easily the best fight of the series. Edit: lol I began writing this before I saw #9 --- @('_')@ ... Copied to Clipboard!
