Which is it, CE?

Today would be the 1st day of Christmas, if there's 12 days

There's actually a real answer to that question.

From Wikipedia

The twelve days in the song are the twelve days starting with Christmas Day to the day before Epiphany (6 January). Twelfth Night is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "the evening of January 5th, the day before Epiphany, which traditionally marks the end of Christmas celebrations"

Do I know you IRL?

Because I had this exact discussion yesterday with someone and it's just really weird that something I've never seen/talked about with anybody before is appearing twice in like an 18 hr period.

Its probably the 5th day of Christmas, because that's where the big Christmas stuff happens, and you don't really go bigger than 5 golden rings.

Besides, plenty of people do their Christmas celebrations a couple days later or earlier to work around family schedules and stuff like that, so it can't be the last day of Christmas.

But you have 7 days of Xmas after Dec 25, which means your holidays end on Jan 1, the day you have off for New Years. Then you go back to work. It also means the first day of Christmas is Dec 21, which is funnily enough the "official" start of winter.

Only is correct.

I could see an argument for last, I guess. But I'm completely bewildered by the idea that it's the first. Is this maybe a cultural thing or something?

What the hell

Is that a real thing? I always assumed "the twelve days of Xmas" was just some nonsense they made up for the song.

Last.

24 is the first day. So you get two total.

Not only is it real, but the song itself is code for the Catholic rituals that were disallowed at some point. I dont remember the details, but you can search for it. Im on my phone and its too hard.

Also, the fourth day is supposed to be colly birds, a type of blackbird (likely from coal-colored=colly), not calling birds.
