President-elect Trump said Tuesday he would nominate former NFL player and onetime Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker to serve as his ambassador to the Bahamas.

The crazy part is this is probably one of Trump's least damaging nominations to date.

I learned from the hit Netflix show The Diplomat they can be instrumental in preventing global crisis.

They also host Cabinet members and Congressional delegations when they meet with foreign leaders so it's kind of important that they not start babbling about vampires or showing off their fake police star the minute conversation slows down.

For dangerous or crucial countries, ambassadors are career civil service employees with 20+ years of experience and multiple graduate degrees (and at least one related to that country). For others, yes, they are ceremonial (and DCOM (Deputy Chief of Mission) does any hard stuff that comes up).
