Upgraded to a 2024 65 OLED and OMG does it make a difference going from a basic 2017 4k model. The colors, the motion and being able to better appreciate the quality of the textures definitely make for a more immersive experience. Granted these tvs existed back at some capacity, but you had to pay thousands while you can get them now at around just 1k. Wonder what they'll push on next since OLED seems to be relatively affordable now. Im hearing micro leds seem to be next.

Basic models are so cheap with quite the leap in tech that you can upgrade for even around 200. It's quite amazing that your tv has lasted so long. A testament of the quality build before they became so cheap

I have a Vizio TV I bought in like 2012 that is still going strong in the bedroom, but my main $1.5K Sony Bravio 55 inch X900F TV died within 3 years and was prohibitively expensive to repair for the quality of a new TV for the same price.

I'm probably never buy a high end TV again after that load of shit.

I've always had bad luck with Sony outside of consoles. TVs, DVD players, there was always something wrong.

That said-- yeah. At this point you can get a Hisense that does everything you want it to do for a third of the price of high end hardware.

So you have to replace 4K TVs more frequently? I want one, but I really cant justify it yet. 2160 movie file sizes are humongous and I dont really do a lot of high-FPS gaming. Ive had my 1080 TV for probably close to a decade by now.

Yeah, it really is. Every time my family comes over to see my higher end TVs they are convinced they want to get their own as soon as they can. My sister and brother n' law came over to see my current one (I'm gaming on a samsung 65 inch QN90B miniled TV) and they were losing their shit because of how thin it was (they didn't believe me when I kept telling them its a 65 inch at first) alongside light-sources (like coming across a sunrise/sunset in last of us 2 for example. I had shown them that opening section in the woods at seattle)smacking them in the face.

For years I was fine using either hand-me-down TVs or whatever I bought for cheap. Back when red dead redemption 2 first came out on the PS4 in 2018 that was when I finally decided to look into what makes a TV great for video gaming and how HDR is supposed to work in general. (The first lesson I learned......just because a TV says "HDR compatible" on it's box does not actually mean a god damn thing. All this means is that the TV can go into HDR mode, but if it doesn't have the specifications/the hardware for proper HDR mode then you are actually making your picture much worse when activating HDR).

I went from playing on a samsung Q8FN (the first mid/upper range TV I ever tried that first week red dead 2 dropped. Shit blew my mind since I was coming off of a budget 40 inch), samsung Q9FN (I had bought a couple's 65 inch Q9FN for 1,000 dollars even off facebook marketplace. I sold my 55 inch Q8FN to my brother), to a LG CX OLED, and finally to my current QN90B miniled.

I'm addicted to extremely bright HDR (and SDR) highlights. The QN90B can hit over 2,000 nits peak brightness 10 percent windows (the 10 percent windows is what you really want for impressive HDR brightness) and so like when I play resident evil 4 remake for example and come across a searchlight like this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/a/a3ed89cd.jpg

It hits so damn good, lol. Its not just about brightness though, you get a TV that has great contrast (something OLED TVs excel at what with it being infinite), a wide color gamut to actually support a variety of colors, and for the gaming side these TVs have great input lag, full VRR support, 120hz (with smaller TVs at 50 inches supporting 144hz), in my opinion a good gaming TV is a better video game related purchase than just getting better hardware.

Microled is supposed to be a step up from current TVs since it aims to combine what LCD/LED and OLED TVs does best. (It won't be using organic materials like OLEDs currently do so image retention/burn-in genuinely won't be a concern while having that amazing contrast OLEDs is known for, and it will also aim to have high brightness that LED/QLED/miniled TVs support but without the blooming you get with LEDs/minileds). It'll be awhile before regular consumers would be able to get something like this though.

If that is your main TV that you use, do you have an RF adaptor to make well, anything work with it? So much of everything these days needs HDMI, AVI, or USB ports, and Im assuming a 1986 would only have an RF port on the back.

It's legit the best visual upgrade that most people can make for their setup, but it's also basically impossible to market. The majority of people legit haven't seen a modern high end TV. The ones in the store have such fucked up settings that they don't do them justice at all.

Using a Samsung Q95A here after my old one was destroyed by a power surge. I'd love an OLED, but I use this screen for my work too, so I don't wanna risk image retention.

Yeah, the first HD TV I've ever seen was a Sony back in what, 2006 or so when my dad bought one lol. That thing was still working by the time I moved out.

My issue is a common one apparently. They designed the thing that if a single LED light strand errors out the whole screen shuts off. The model year before there was a bypass you could hack by removing a part or something, but it isn't in my year's model.

The TV looked fine but something inside it was borked with LED lighting and causes it to just shut off with blinking power light after 15-30 min on average.

Just an fyi, you don't have to connect your tv to the internet. I recently upgraded from a 2011 Samsung dumb tv to a LG C3. I have wifi disabled and set so it doesn't power on to the home screen. I turn on the tv and it goes to the last input I had it on whether that's my pc or PS4.

No smart functions being used. Just a dumb tv with a great screen.

They're honestly kind of a pain. We have one smart TV. It was slow as hell in 2014 when we bought it, and it's only gotten slower.

It's legit like ten seconds between pushing a button on the remote and any kind of response at this point.

Yeah samsung had some pretty good TVs in 2018 and 2019. To be honest with you samsung's flagship TV from 2018 the Q9FN still looks pretty damn good for video gaming and I was completely fine using that on the PS5+everything else for a time. The main reason I decided to upgrade with another TV is because the VRR support the PS5 ended up getting does not work correctly with the HDMI 2.0 displays like samsung's 2018 n' 2019 TVs that had like, freesync support but nothing else . I ended up selling the Q9FN to my mother (makes for a real good living room TV) and briefly tried the LG CX OLED before I took it back (OLED TVs do indeed look great, but in the end I preferred going back to a QLED/miniLED type TV for a few reasons), went back to using the Q9FN for a bit, and then finally grabbed the QN90B last year september.

Right now all my bases is covered for video gaming and I have no need to get anything else until microLED is a thing. Great HDR with impressive highlights, deep blacks with blooming that I rarely if ever notice (only when gaming in a absolute pitch-black room and its some sort of bright white subtitles that I'll actually see a little blooming when playing something), 30fps console games as rare as it is that I still come across theme actually looks good on this TV w/ game motion plus helping with the 30fps, no auto-brightness limiter shenanigans (to be real no worries in general. I am constantly going away from the game and falling asleep...wake up and whatever I was doing previously is still going since I most likely slept on the remote control. I don't mind having my OLED switch and my samsung galaxy S9 but I don't want to have a larger OLED TV with me being the worst kind of costumer with this technology. Also I like my high brightness), and most important to me longevity since I don't plan on making this kind of pricey TV purchase every 3 years or so.

I figure with 4 HDMI 2.1 slots with full VRR support across all major resolutions (8K aside. Ain't worrying about this no time soon) that I am good to go for a real long time.
