I wouldn't go that far (not in a universe where KotOR exists, for starters), but I'd definitely agree it's one of the few things Disney Star Wars somehow managed to do right.

Ironically, one of the only other things they've done worth a damn is Andor, which leads me to believe that Diego Luna is somehow the lynchpin holding everything together.

In terms of just the movies though? Yeah, Rogue One is definitely #4, behind the originals and ahead of the prequels.

I like Rogue One because it's not a Star Wars movie, it's a war movie set in the Star Wars universe.
(Star Wars movies are Big Dumb Action movies)

I kind of liked it for the same reason some people hated it. The characters were kind of stereotypes or outright blanks. Which is why you get the "Oh yeah, name more than two characters" response from people who want to crap on it.

But I kind of like it - it makes it feel more mythological than real. Like a story being told by someone years later, and dipping into archetypes and underlying themes. The monk is just "The Monk". That's all he really needs to be. Most of the characters kind of fit into that mold - the only ones with slightly more complex personalities are also the only two whose names you're likely to remember (or care about).

It definitely had its flaws, but it made me feel more like Star Wars than any other movie since 1983.

No, I meant that "probably best star wars thing outside the original trilogy" ignores other awesome things outside of the original trilogy, like KotOR and potentially stuff like Dark Empire or the Timothy Zahn books. Maybe even Shadows of the Empire. The Genndy Tartakovsky Star Wars. Probably other stuff I'm forgetting.

I liked Rogue One, but I definitely didn't like it more than KotOR.

Yeah, Rogue One is straight-up good. The Mandelorian occasionally flirts into this good territory, but is anchored by the merchandise staple that is Baby Yoda.

I care more about character and story than action scenes, I'll give you that it had a great battle scene, but that doesn't make it a good movie

I understand but I still don't think it's the best thing outside the OT, the PT had better stuff and the Clone Wars is even better than the PT

Idk, the end of Episode 2 is pretty ok with the colosseum battle, but I found the space combat in the PT and Clone Wars to be not that good...

Clone Wars nailed the troop combat tho

The nature of KotOR means I can't actually answer this question.

If you haven't played it, you should. It might feel a bit janky or archaic now, but I still think the original is fantastic.

an RPG with no set pieces? that sounds interesting, it would have to rely entirely on mood... very French.

They're BioWare games before EA ruined them. They're both choices actually matter games.
