It was put to a vote, and illegality was declared because of the bloc of Mayo supporters.

No that doesn't sound right

https://www.seriouseats.com/mustard-oil-guide

It's literally just not FDA approved for cooking but apparently it's FDA approved as therapeutic.

I can't say I'm super convinced about it being that bad for you considering how many people cooked and continue to cook with it elsewhere in the world

I just wanna circle back to this and point out that the angostura bitters sold in grocery stores are absolutely alcoholic, but because it has a plug in it so you have to dash it, it doesn't count as an alcoholic beverage.

The warning is bogus. Mustard oil is potent and harmful to rats.

A 2023 review highlights that some health experts classify erucic acid as a toxic substance. This is due to its association with the poisoning effect in toxic oil syndrome and cardiotoxicity in rats. However, no current research notes that erucic acid is harmful to human hearts, and there were limitations in the animal model experiments.

Huh. A quick google search tells me the erucic acid they're worried about is also in Rapeseed/Canola Oil.

The FDA banned an entire technique for how caught fish are treated (gutting and air-drying prior to salting), across all species, because of 11 cases of botulism in Great Lakes whitefish. Now granted, botulism is very very bad, but other countries can still gut and air-dry fish, then sell them in this country (most notably Canada).

The same thing happened with sassafras in the 70s . The FDA must be run by the rat people.
