A knife-wielding maniac with a history of mental illness and 53 prior arrests is wanted in connection with at least two stabbings in the subway this week, The Post has learned. Cops searching for Jamar Banks were warned to use extreme caution when encountering him because he is believed to be armed with a large knife, according to a message sent to police officers and obtained by The Post. Banks, 52, is known to frequent the No. 2 and No. 5 subway lines, authorities said in the message. Hes being sought in connection with stabbings on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, according to the NYPD. A surveillance photo allegedly shows Banks holding the knife in gloved hands. He has a very very lengthy arrest history, a police source said. It looks like he rides the rails back and forth.

Banks is wanted for allegedly approaching a 31-year-old man from behind on a 2 train at the Union Square station in Manhattan on Wednesday and starting an argument, before stabbing him in the back and running away. Hes also suspected of knifing an off-duty MTA cleaner in the back and armpit around 6 a.m. Thursday, after starting an argument with the victim on a northbound 5 train platform at the Pelham Bay station in the Bronx, police said. The attacker fled after the stabbing. Both victims were taken to hospitals in stable condition.

I'm not in favor of 3 strikes laws but if you get arrested over 50 times, there should be a cutoff where you aren't allowed back in civil society.

Shit like this infuriates me. Mental health issues or not, nobody should be on the streets after 53 arrests.

53 arrests, once they find him he needs put away for a very long time. Someone with a violent history doesn't deserve to be amongst the general public.

Nah, I'm sure there will be a 54th. And 55th. One of the few bright spots about Trump is we might stop being soft on crime finally.

What's the logic in letting all these serial offenders back out on the street time and time again? It helps nobody and just creates more danger and pisses people off. Also gets them to vote Republican and then the pendulum swings too far in the other direction which causes even more misery.

One thing we need to discuss is how a lot of people are too mentally ill to accept help and they need to be forcibly institutionalized.

I remember making a similar statement regarding a guy who was stalking WWE wrestlers at their Performance Center.

Because the laws are still applied unevenly and these hurt minority communities regardless if the people are violent or not. Its just another method of control. The system is so fundamentally broken, any solution that doesn't involve rebuilding from the ground up will be fraught with uneven distribution of punishments and state sanctioned violence against innocent people.

London police shot and killed an innocent man who was running for a train because they assumed he was a terrorist after a failed attempt the day before which was 2 weeks after the 7/7 terrorist attacks.

we need to stop blaming Reagan for this. Its been forty years. New York could have changed it but both local politicians and activist groups have actively fight any measures for it.

its not part of the social contract to ask people to deal with this in public transport. Theres been a ton of oh just ignore it or move and people are tired of it

I genuinely believe there is no downside politically for Democrats to move on the right regarding this. Here in California, people are tired of smash and grabs and mentally ill homeless people making public situations uncomfortable. Hence why those propositions for harsher penalties passed.

Regarding forced institutionalization, it needs to happen but and the same time its a petri dish for corruption and abuse. No one understandably wants to be on the hook for it.

Yeah, it needs TIGHT oversight and regulation. One issue is the "catch and release" policy and it's really hurting us. "Soft On Crime" prosecutors drop like flies

I still remember when a mentally ill homeless man literally beat a woman's dog to death and the local authorities wee like "She's white, he's Black, how do we handle this without furthering injustice against him?" and he wasn't even apprehended
