Got every character into Elite Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Took me about 2.5 years.

Finished the Pokdex in Yellow and Crystal.

Got all emblems in SADX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

100%ed Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Mania, and Sonic 1.

100%ed OoT and MM.

One of my favorites is beating hard corps uprising (a contra game) without dying awhile back on the xbox 360 version. I was always happy to have the 200/200 achievements in that game.

I dunno, I'm not a big fan of challenge runs. I've beaten some legendarily difficult games before, and honestly most of them were overstated.

So like

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
F-Zero GX
Super C
Mega Man

Not that hard. You can't win on your first ten tries or anything, but the actual hardest ones IMO were more like:

Shinobi PS2
Vanquish (including GH and Tactical Challenge 6)
Star Ocean 2
Double Dragon

The one challenge run that I ever remember doing was a fully minimalist run of Mega Man X. As in, I avoided all the upgrades except the dash (because you can't), but then I refused to use the dash for the rest of Chill Penguin's stage and then hacked the password to remove it for the rest of the game.

Either NSG (most of it NSGNS) monster arena in FFX or all the platinum relics in Crash N Sane Trilogy.

EDIT: Or that one Spelunky daily run where I had the top score when it closed.

Got to the 7th stage of the 8th loop before dying in the NES Contra.

Beating Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts.

Beating the notorious monster Jazaraat in FFXI solo at like level 62 Beastmaster when a random player asked me for help while I was xping in the area. One failure of my charm ability would have spelled death as the others mobs would have all aggro'd me. Letting my pets die would have also led to me running out of mobs to charm. A delicate balancing act that was a thrill to pull off, especially since I hadn't done the mission before.

The one that sticks out for me is beating F-Zero X on all tracks all difficulties

winning back to back to back games of tetris 99

was #1 in the world on a few arkham asylum challenge maps

was top 3 on a few mirrors edge ones

was briefly in top 10 on the training time for codmod2 before hackers overran it

I did some speedruns back then. Got some pretty good times in ff7, resident evil 2, and the metal gear solid games. For mgs3 I had like the 3rd best time at one point

No idea really, maybe collecting full sets of all decorations in monster hunter world solo before the expansion came out 1200 hours?

or some of the rare shit I found/collected in SWG, and unlocking Jedi before they made it selectable (and completely got rid of skill/char building and made it class based) that took an ungodly amount of time

This topic reminded me of my time playing so much phantasy star online across the dreamcast, gamecube, xbox, and PC.

My favorite rare item drop memory is creating a legit double cannon. First I had to find the lavis cannon off of my redria hunewearl off the rare slime enemies in the caves. (Many, many hours spent deliberately splitting the slimes with rabarta and then telepiping back to town. Used to worry about the gamecube's disc reader because of how much piping was going on). After finally getting that sob, I had to hop on the oran hucaseal I add, and get her up to ultimate so I could hunt the rare hildetorr enemy I think it was for that item that makes lavis cannon moprh betweein the lavis blades and then double cannon.

I also did ultimate seabed like a madman until finally I got my legit monkey king bar to drop off the purple squid enemy mob. My main thing in PSO episode 1 and 2 was trying to get every single rare double saber type weapon in the game and I actually accomplished that. I had my own set of twin brand, stag cutlery, twin blaze (flaming q-tip), meteor cudgel, monkey king bar eventually turned black king bar, and double cannon It'd like to show off, and they were definitely mind because the stat percentages were their own unique (my lavis cannon had a juicy 35 hit on it) thing compared to all the mass-cloned rare weapon copies that the vast majority of the community had.

Easily best game of all time, lmao. My hours was also pretty damn nutty (I bought like 6 different VMUs on the dreamcast just so I can have 6 characters. 2 gamecube memory cards just so I could have 8. All those characters had so many hours on'em, lol). I was straight up obsessed.

I don't regret a single moment playing those games since the best friends I have in life I actually met through phantasy star online on the dreamcast and then gamecube. (One of those things were we became good online gaming friends and we all got to know one another IRL type of things).

I got PSO just to get Tails Chao in SA2. I still have both.

I bought that goofy looking gamecube keyboard controller just for PSO and still have it in my closet somewhere, lol. To be fair PSO might be the only single gamecube game that actually had a need for a keyboard like that.

The controller part still functions like a regular gamecube controller would though but you'd just be holding a big keyboard also. I always wanted to take it to a random smash brothers event or something.

Surely there's a point where you have nothing left to acquire. What did you do once you hit that point?

Probably getting Knights of the Round in FF7. Maybe getting to Grate Guy's casino in the original SMRPG.

No hit run Ninja Gaiden - segmented minus the last boss (thought to be impossible at the time).
Several competitive top 10 PvE rankings in WoW, especially from Cata-MoP.
Celeste B-sides, Super Meat Boy, Hollow Knight - I think all these games have harder challenges than the classic NES difficulty games.

I used to be able to clean house at locals in Melee and was pretty decent at some anime fighters.
I was briefly top 100 in Pokemon DP on Shoddy.
I've done some challenge runs of FF1, FF6, and SMRPG. I should do a Chrono Trigger LLG...

Since you asked, respectively: awesome, ok, cool, ok, ok. Competitive PvP stuff is always impressive and I think all A's in SA2 is a good accomplishment.

I literally just beat Pantheon of Hallownest today in Hollow Knight. I think that's the one.

Notable mentions to beating Dark Fact in Ys I Chronicle on Nightmare, and achieving Golden God in Super Meat Boy.

Finally beating The Lion King for the Super Nintendo. Mind you I played it on the Disney Classic games: Aladin and The Lion King.

I didn't need to use the rewind feature either, just used a guide on YouTube. Hardest part is Ostrich level because there's a bugged tree.

Rest was relatively easy with the walkthrough

Edit: could never beat it as kid on the SNES because I didn't have a guide and didn't know about the glitch on that level.

Made it all the way through the game Arcana (SNES) without ever buying armor. Completely by accident, I never knew you could scroll down in the equipment shop and buy armor.

As another PSO addict who still plays, it is very, very unlikely you can ever acquire everything in that game. There's always more stuff to do.

As an example, probably the biggest "white whale" for completionists in that game is a full set of legitimately-obtained Section ID cards. For those not aware, when you generate a character in PSO, it is assigned one of 10 "Section IDs", which determines the drop rates for various items, including rare items. Some rares are exclusive to one of the IDs and can only be obtained by characters with that ID.

Amongst the rarest items in the game are the Section ID cards, all of which have incredibly low drop rates and some of which only drop off of very rare enemies. As an example, both the Greenil Card and the Redria card are 1 in 40330 drops that only drop off the Gran Sorcerer in the Spaceship, which is a mob that only spawns ~6 times per run (and a run will typically take about 45 minutes to an hour solo; less if you have a group). I have been hunting the Greenil card for literal decades and never got it to drop for me.

I loved collecting rarities in SWG. My pride and joy were:
-A bacta tank
-A complete Aurillian sculpture
-An Aurillian banner
-A bunch of stuff from the old Project Deadeye quests that were only available in the game's first months
-The Mark of the Hero
-A complete set of the anniversary paintings
-A Sith Altar (a quest item you could get off an almost impossible-to-access quest on Dathomir that required you to take down a Dark Jedi Knight that had ~300,000 health and 90% resistances to every damage type - barely anyone even knew that quest line existed, because you had to use an exploit to even access the quest giver after an early patch prevented you from talking to NPCs you couldn't see).
-One of the fastest starship engines on the server. I would race people from time to time and I only ever found one person with a faster ship.

A lot of that time was the grind to 200 on several characters, but even MORE of that time was... leaving the machine on when duping materials and falling asleep.

I have a little over 1000 Expert Pro Drum Full Combos in Rock Band 4

Beat Contra and Super C without cheat codes.

Getting Platinum on Star Wars Battlefront (2015), as only about 0.1% of all players on that game actually got the Platinum. That means beating all the multiplayer modes (including the trash modes like Hero Hunt), beating any Survival mode on Master without using a continue, getting first kill in any multiplayer match, beating both the Millennium Falcon and Slave I, completing all missions on Master mode, etc.

100%ing Tales of the Abyss
Beating RE4 no merchant
Beating MGS2 on European Extreme, Game Over If Spotted, Type 2 radar
Got 4/20 in Slay the Spire

What difficult stuff are you all working on that you haven't accomplished yet? For me:

-100% Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl
-Ys: Oath in Felghana Inferno difficulty
-Rise of the Mongols scenario on Deity in Civ V (so many attempts and I can't crack this stupid achievement)
-All Platinum medals in every track, tournament, and event in every Trials game
-100% N++ (this will be the hardest out of everything if I ever get around to do it. Beat the base game aside from co-op within a year of release and then these bastards added like a billion levels)

In addition to what someone else mentioned in terms of how hard it is to get literally everything, there's also the fact that most equipment drops with randomized stats. Trying to get maximized or optimal stats (which could have multiple variations because on weapons you could only have 3 boosts) on even one piece of high end equipment could be a lifetime undertaking.

The 35% hit the dude mentioned for his Double Cannon is already pretty impressive a feat, but that number goes to 100% max, which is nearly unheard of. Combine that with the already low drop rate for the base piece, and you've probably got lottery- winning odds there. And that's one piece.

Yes, pretty much everything in PSO was tradeable. A surprising number of people played offline only though. And apart from Blue Burst, if you traded there was always the threat that the item you got was hacked or duped, so a lot of "legit" players refused to use or count anything they didn't find themselves.

Honestly? Building, populating, and decorating key settlements in Fallout 4 the way I want without them crashing / becoming unplayable.

But I'm really close this time. After the 2024 update the game's more stable on XB than it's ever been. Red Rocket truckstop, Noir Penthouse, and Neon Flats are all fully completed. Vault 88 is fully completed, though that one crashes constantly when trying to enter, and I can only reliably fast-travel there from Home Plate right when I boot up the game (and I had to gut all of the bathrooms and most of the bedrooms). The Murkwater Cyborg Lab is fully built and populated with no signs of crashing, but I still have to do some light hand-placed clutter.

A fully-functioning Vault + Institute-themed laboratory / utopia on Spectacle Island is the prime goal I've tried and failed to make work for years, and I'm soooo close to finally having it finished and functional. All the structures / furniture are built and stability seemed fine for the longest time, but all of the sudden it took a nosedive when I was halfway through the handplaced clutter (I really wish there was some consistency with this shit; hand-placed clutter didn't make a dent in Vault 88's stability ffs). So I got rid of about six settlers and tried to optimize some construction in the hopes that will keep it from becoming a crashfest.

Whats the glitch on the tree? I only remember duck, jump, double jump based on if there is a nest, a pink animal or something else

I was also buddies with soixante neuf who had the galactic museum of wonders on starsider with literally every item ever in the game on display

my personal favorites were my kyrat t-21 that I pup sliced myself and had better stats than legendary ones sold on the trade/auction official board >_>

and my cl 1(0) gurrecks, rancors, and kimos they all had insane stats, I almost killed the grandmaster Jedi who was fs grinding on top of his guildhall with them alone on my BH Jedi alt(they could agro and ignore the barriers that wouldnt let me pass) since we are talking about glitches/exploits

**oh, and this one took no effort but the preorder speeder that restored its health every time it was called even when completely destroyed saved my jedis ass more times than I could count when BHs were hunting me

I've been number one in smogon/pokemon showdown OU ladder a few times, including a run where I went 50-0.

Got a 50 in halo 3 MLG (as well as pretty much every other Playlist).

Leader of a 300 man mega tribe on Ark.

oh right: It doesn't feel like a huge deal, it's just a grind, but I hit rank and xp cap on Warframe, which necessitates doing every challenge and acquiring all available equipment.

Getting 100% completion in the OG version of Final Fantasy 12 was a pretty significant milestone, the peak of which was finally getting a Danjuro to drop; after fruitless hours of grinding I was fed up and told myself that I was going to fight one more Larva Eater and then give up forever, and the gaming gods took pity on me and had that last fucker finally drop a Danjuro.

I treasured the fuck out of that little dagger for the few remaining hours of gameplay I had left, and built Ashe's equipment around getting the most out of it. I got in as many licks with it against Yiazmat as I could, but I think it was Vaan w/ Yagyu Darkblade that landed the killing blow (which was itself one of the four uber-rare unique drops, so it was still fairly poetic).
