I got so angry 4 years ago when my idiot uncle posted a gif of some price starting to go up in November 2020 and thinking it was proof of something against Biden because you know, obviously hes capable of passing policies that retroactively affect conditions before inauguration.

If you actually look and can understand the fucking metrics that statement isn't incorrect. Vibes tho.

It was working. The US economy was doing better than our peer nations.

That's not to say it didn't need improving and that there wasn't still work to be done. But the joining of hands with Republicans by fellow Democrats/ Progressives/ the left......

....Trumps ads worked because per usuals, unless Democrats deliver nye perfection, it mind as well be nothing was a narrative by many on our own side. Which is effective messaging in favor of Republicans and Trump.

Also agree with post 3. I'd like to add to bfslicks point, that watch some of the usuals so "concerned" about the economy get quiet when Trump takes over.

Yep, whenever I saw those ads, my stomach dropped. If anything was going to work, it was always going to be that, and it did.

But establishment Democrats were infuriated by the idea that they shouldn't defend everything currently going on to the hilt in a worldwide change election environment. Representing the status quo when everyone is mad about everything is death. You have to at least be perceived as bringing change, even if Trump will 1000000% be a worse version of the present at best.

On the up side Trump did not get a landslide victory so America is smarter than it was.

This is partly why democrats are "bad" at messaging.... because people are fucking dumb. They say factual stuff and the general voting populace goes "Hmmm, you say that...and it's true... but how about instead, I stick my head up my ass and try to suffocate myself with farts!"

The fact that vibes are what win elections isn't some new thing that should've blindsided Democrats.

By most standard measurements it was working. It's just that these measurements are no longer too great at understanding sentiment.

Back in 2023 we didn't really know this. In 2024 we learned that people's savings were dwindling and people were incurring more credit card debt.

Joe Biden has had job growth in every single month of his presidency. Not sure if that's ever been done before. It very much worked.

$20/hr in 2024 is worth ~$16.5/hr in 2020. People feel that, it's not just vibes. It's like getting your leg cut off and bleeding out, Biden stopped the bleeding, but you're still missing a leg. It's (mostly) not his fault, but being told, "You're fine now," is tone-deaf. And, TBH, much of the inflation happened in metrics like groceries and is closer to 30%.

Continuing this stupid analogy, Trump is a quack doctor that correctly diagnosed that you leg is missing, but wants to cure it by cutting off even more blood flow to regrow the leg. Those prices are not coming back down in any meaningful way and tariffs are just going to hurt prices even more.
