Its a lot harder than I expected, but beautiful and dangerous at the same time

It's great if you don't have to shovel and don't have to go anywhere. And don't lose power

Its only about a inch or two thick right now. Fortunately I didnt have to work today

And also provided it remains a reasonable amount. If you keep getting more and more, it just piles up into ugly brown/grey snowbanks that stop looking nice at all and just get in the way.

I can't imagine living someplace that never gets snow. I am not a huge fan in general, but I have always lived somewhere with snow so it is just part of my sense of time passing.

Cool that all the southern people get to see how pretty the snow is tbh.

I lived in Orlando during the 80s and people started freaking out because snow flurries were being reported. I think this was around December 89.

As an ex floridian, snow sucks, you're not missing much.

It's fun as a novelty like it would be for you all in Florida. Up north it's just an impediment to our daily routine.

My sister had two days of school cancelled in Houston, but then Texas is one of those places where people start dying when the first flake hits the ground because no one knows how to drive on it.

Honestly, even in places that do get plenty of snow, the first major fall of the year is always rough because apparently everybody forgets how to drive on it. Not so many fatalities, necessarily, because there is at least some baseline understanding of how to handle it, but definitely more than you'd think.

I've had to deal with the first actual snowy winter in ten years. Moved back to Michigan. It fucking sucks. It's pretty when the sun is out and it's in the 30's, but dealing with weeks of subzero temperatures, dreary skies and grimy, slushy streets is miserable.

I never understand that relearning curve and how the first snow is so disastrous. Every single year it's like the road/ditch is filled with southerners that have never driven in snow before.

I saw two cars stuck in a ditch yesterday, one of which was a big pick up truck right before the entrance ramp onto a highway. I have no idea how people forget so quickly. Its the same with rain. Everyone panics and forgets how to drive intelligently

Like I get that the first snow is what prompts a lot of people to put their winter tires on (which is stupid in its own right because winter happens every year and shouldn't catch anyone by surprise), and that can cause some issues, and first snows are often in that particularly dangerous temperature range where the snow almost immediately turns to the slipperiest slush possible, but driving in snow isn't that hard. You just do everything a little more gently across the board: Accelerate more gently, brake more gently, and turn more gently.

It really doesn't make sense. I've lived in Minneapolis most of my life and every year there are tons of people who either drive 20 on the freeway during the first snowfall or people who still drive 25 over the speed limit as if the snow will have no effect on them whatsoever. I make a point to avoid leaving the house if possible the first day of snow every year. Drivers just be chaotic.

Now driving on ice after/during a freezing ice storm is a whole other thing. That is

Big trucks are always fun to see in the ditch because their drivers are often some of the most over confident idiots on the road. I drive a 4WD pickup, but I'm not flying by people in storms.

I wish we got more snow. Stupid global warming.

Yep. You have much more control, but you still need to be prepared to lose that control and not take unnecessary risks. If you assume you'll be fine, you're going to end up with problems.

I've got more control with 4WD, but without some weight in my bed the ass end is still pretty squirrely on ice. I swear my wife's SUV handles better.

i've seen light snow twice before in my life, but what the hell there's still some snow that's unmelted

We didn't get snow here this most recent snow day but on the last one it was pretty nice, still had to work but no customers so we just sat around, was funny seeing all the dipshits who decided to take thier RWD cars out, like there was a guy in a mustang spinning out at a 15 degree incline.

We get it every winter. I'm up north in England so it's expected.

I pretty confident "winter tires" are a scam. I've seen no real difference in control when they were allegedly installed. Drive too fast, lose control. Start slipping, slow down. It's that simple.
