To quote my post from the previous topic: ParanoidObsessive posted... None of them, really. Most of them either ended on disappointing notes, or feel like bringing them back now would only result in a terrible game that would retroactive sully my memory of the older ones. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem II would be awesome in concept, and would probably be the one I'd most want in a perfect world where my favored sequel would somehow magically be perfect. But in the real world, it runs up against the same problem Fable is currently facing - the original studio is long dead, the original creator/project lead won't be a part of it, and the sequel being made by an entirely new team with entirely different perspectives will almost certainly result in a game that feels nothing like the original and turns off most long time fans. It also doesn't help that one of the major selling points of the original Eternal Darkness (screwing with the player's perceptions to simulate madness) would be much harder to pull off these days, especially if players are going into the game expecting it. And would feel far less unique as just another horror game in an endless sea of horror games, and not a unique horror experience on a completely unexpected console. A new Eternal Darkness game would almost certainly never feel as special as the first one did. Basically, we really need to start encouraging auteurs to start making new games with new ideas and new concepts rather than constantly begging for old IPs to be constantly rehashed into the ground just because we can't let go of our childhood nostalgia for old games. Sometimes, we need to let the things we love die, so we can always remember them as being perfect. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... Copied to Clipboard!

The top two options are the only ones theres any chance Id play. Id be up for a sequel to Odyssey but not exactly excited, and very skeptical about a sequel to a game that released in 2002 and pushed the envelope back then. Id watch it with curiosity but I wouldnt have high hopes. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I think more of Mario Odyssey (Not necessarily titled as a sequel, but similar concept) would be great. They could easily come up with new worlds, new enemies and new powers. Hell, the Mario series has pretty much been exclusively doing this for its entire lifetime. It was a great game and seeing more of it wouldn't be a bad thing. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Almost five years later and I still keep going back to play Nioh 2. I'd love to have a third one, although I can only imagine how much of my free time it would eat up. KingInBlack posted... Denis Dyack, lead designer/creator of Eternal Darkness is a convicted felon. You're not getting another game. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that studios bother to ask the original creators back to work on sequels. For example, Peter Molyneux has absolutely nothing to do with the Fable reboot. Microsoft bought his studio, closed and gutted it, then just tossed the IP to a bunch of unrelated randos who have no connection to the franchise at all and who don't really seem to understand it very well. That's more or less what ALL reboots and sequels are at this point. Even games like Veilguard which were technically being made by the same company were realistically being made by an entirely different team of people being led by someone completely different, working from scripts written by different writers, programming using a different game engine, and ultimately producing a work that barely feels like it has any connection to the original series at all. If anything, it's more just a question of who bought the intellectual rights to a property, and whether or not they think they can exploit it for quick and easy cash. We could absolutely see Eternal Darkness 2: Requiem Harder at some point if Nintendo wanted to make it (because they're apparently the ones who own the rights to the IP right now). They'd just have to farm it out to some third-party studio. And it would almost certainly be terrible. Probably the only thing really stopping this from happening is that, from Nintendo's perspective, the first game didn't make enough money to ever make a sequel worth developing. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ...
