BotW is overrated as hell. TotK was better in almost every way. I sold BotW but I'm willing to give it another try.

Echoes of Wisdom is close to, if not the best 2D Zelda.

The ending of Danganronpa 3 was awesome.

I can't seem to get into any Dragon Ball game despite how much I love the series. I also don't enjoy arena fighters all that much.

NSO is absolutely worth a subscription. It's very affordable if you don't do the family plan.

Final Fantasy IX >>>>>>>> Any other Final Fantasy.
Dead Rising 4 is the best DR game.
Never completed any Bethesda game. Started many, but there's something about them that rubs me the wrong way. They're all very similar to each other.

Super Metroid isn't very good and the jumping is bad. 2 and Fusion are better.
Super is good in spite of the jumping, and the jumping isn't any better in the other two.

These are the people who made Mario, so I guess they actually like Metroid's terrible crappy jumping for some reason.

I don't know how controversial it is, but I hate too much realism in video games. Carrying too many items that it slows you down? Can't carry an item because it's too big? Having to watch animations take place in real time to lengthen the game play? Shrinking horse testicles?
100%. Every single other consideration should outweigh realism unless it's an actual simulator.

Xenogears15 posted...
- FFIX was just one step above mediocre.
Agree. It was one of the most generic games I've ever played. The few things that weren't just straight exactly what you expect from high fantasy JRPGs were just FF3-5 rehashes. Or else they came out of nowhere and/or ended up going nowhere. Vivi and Kuja were the only characters even a little bit interesting, to boot.

Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Red Dead 2 feel like shit to actually move the characters around in.

Solid games but I get an immediate ick from trying to play them.
Also I dunno why but Uncharted 1's shooting always felt a little off to me. As if the enemies' hitboxes are smaller than their models or something--I can't put a finger on it, even after probably five or more playthroughs of the game.

2-d Mario games should run from right to left.
Nah. Left to right is definitely the right call. I'm familiar with the film technique that I assume you're referring to, but Mario just doesn't have the right tone for it. At most, the boss levels could be RTL.

Developers need to back off of graphics and go back to prioritizing gameplay
I'd go so far as to say graphics have even stagnated for a full decade despite runaway hardware requirements and budget. Sure, it's got X times as many polygons and Y new engine and yadda yadda but it still looks almost identical. Games like Arkham Knight still look every bit as good as whatever game everyone thinks is the best looking today.

Honestly I think DSP is right about fighters in a certain way. Most people usually just look up an offense guide for their character and only do those few safe "patterns" as he calls them. Most people don't really try to learn the game on their own.

It's why you see the exact same setups and teams and combos ad nauseum
Related: I remember the realization hitting me of why every single video you look up in FF7 has the same party (Cloud, Cid, Vincent).

Kingdom Hearts has a great story and lore and is easy enough to follow if you play or at least view the cutscenes of all games. KH3 was a very satisfying conclusion to what had come before while leaving enough loose ends to set up its next chapter and keep me excited for whats to come.
It's one of those things that feel (to me, anyway) like the confusion comes from bad translation. For example, 2 confused me with Xemnas going on and on about how he is nothingness or whatever, and I didn't get that at all until I read something (it's been a long time; it might have been one of the secret ansem reports, or who knows what) that explained what he meant. It just seems like a lot of this sort of stuff is meant either more or less literally than it sounds, and it's hard to figure out which is which.

The other thing is, it can be hard to figure out what's supposed to make sense and what's just supposed to be "Kingdom Hearts logic." Like, in Coded, for example, the journal writing new entries in itself is definitely Kingdom Hearts logic... until they proceed to try to make it make sense? To be fair, that's probably the most confusing story in the series (so far; I'm still catching back up).

Baron_Ox posted...
I don't mind remasters.

publishers are already working on new titles, but it often takes more time and money to create new games, so having remasters being developed and sold is a way for them to fund whatever they're working on.

at the very least, you can ignore them.
If this were true, I wouldn't mind them either. Unfortunately, sometimes the remaster happens, it doesn't sell and then they cancel the sequel nobody knew they were working on. Kojima went on record about this with the Zone of the Enders 3 cancelation. It probably happens behind the scenes all the time.

MagiMarthKoopa posted...
Open World is awful for anything but purely sandbox games. It is especially terrible for RPGs
Mostly agree, with the caveat that really small open worlds can actually be really good. Yakuza and Ground Zeroes are fantastic, for example. The problem with open world isn't so much the quest structure or the lack of walls, but the size. The reason is simple: if you double one dimension, you quadruple the area. When you've quintupled one dimension, you've, uh, decadecaquintupled the amount of ground you have to put stage design and details into, and it just doesn't end up happening.

-Mega Man II for the Game Boy is fine. wtf is with people saying it was bad.
They couldn't even get the jumping physics right. Mega literally bounces off of an invisible ceiling above his head. Game was awful, especially as the follow up to one of the best games on the whole system.

Justin2Krelian posted...
-Mario is Missing is also a mediocre game that's decent for what it is, not terrible (though I played the PC version, which may have been a bit better)
I played the SNES ver, and I actually really liked it. It's chill AF, has real world locations, taught me a lot of geography as a kid, has several huge detailed worlds, features Luigi and even has lots of original animations. You'd have to have been expecting an action platformer to dislike it tbh.

I had to look this up, but I agree. I could see Aerif wearing something like that but it just doesn't suit Tifa at all. I guess I can see what they're going for--Tifa and Aerif had this sort of duo-by-design-reversal thing going on (Tifa is the sweet one, even though she's the tough brawler; Aerif is the spunky one even though she's the delicate mage), so maybe they thought this could be like her real self coming through or whatever. But it just doesn't work at all.

Also Assasin's Creed Black flag was terrible and was the start of the down hill trajectory of the series
I did find it disappointing how pretty much everything new was sailing-related. You did also have the alarm bells I guess, but other than that and maybe a few other small things I'm forgetting, they reused a ton of animations and actually downgraded some of the stuff that you do on foot. For example, they got rid of the enemy's alertness system completely.

Agree. It's an actual pain the the ass to play. The inventory system is garbage, and the worst statuses (mushroomized being the one I personally hated the most) are both incurable without returning to town and spammed by pretty much everything in the whole dungeon in which they are relevant.

This part might not be entirely fair, since it was actually deconstructing the way RPGs had been done in recent memory at the time, but it also feels lazy AF that nothing is animated in battle and you don't even have sprites for your characters. Phantasy Star 2/4 evolved that style in a satisfying way, with over-the-shoulder perspective and lots of animations. Earthbound did nothing of the sort.

-Shadow of The Erdtree was kinda neat, but also a slog and seems to have been made for that stereotypical group of masochistic FS fans especially the final boss. To me it also screws with a lot of the lore and story of the main game and makes it all even more confusing.

-I never could get into Majora's Mask because of the time limit. I know people say it's manageable, but being a timer the whole time makes me anxious and kills a lot of the enjoyment for me.

-GTA IV is the best one in terms of story, characters, setting, and overall atmosphere. The relatively grounded story/world is best. The world building and the blending of each MC's story was incredible. I like V a lot too, but it got too over the top and you're more of a spy/mercenary for the government than a criminal.

-Chrono Trigger, Bioshock, and Witcher 3 didn't wow me, but maybe I need to try them again.

All the new resident evil remakes are shit and capcom as a whole hasn't been good since re7.

The current (9th) generation is the absolute worst creativity wise.

The ps2 was Sony's last good console.

Both current god of war games are mediocre writing and gameplay wise, and massacre what little character kratos had. The giving up on the setting and rushing to end the trilogy early should be proof enough.

Nintendo is currently at its most anti consumer phase yet.

The switch has been boring since at least 2020 and their use of the drip feed method sucked.

The steam deck is the most innovative and arguably important piece of gaming hardware released so far in gen 9.

Pokemon peaked with hgss and the last GOOD game was bw2, everything since has been mediocre. Doubt ZA/Gen 10 will be a return to form.

Sony's current worst mistake was hyper focusing on AAA/GAAS slop and killing their AA franchises.

Super Metroid is probably the most overrated game of all time. I'm not saying its bad though. I was led to believe, mostly by the internet, that it was a game thats literally perfect in every way and nothing, Metroid or otherwise, will ever compare. It was... not that. It was okay. Wouldn't rate it higher than 8/10. It really feels like people who like Metroid in general can agree that Other M and Federation Force are the bad ones, whereas Super Metroid lovers will insist that its the only good one. Although the other Metroid games don't have this issue. Fusion lovers don't treat the other games in the franchise the way Super Metroid lovers do. From what I've seen, of course. I guess thats the difference between fans and fanboys. Anyway, I'm rambling about this so I'll stop lol Can you tell Fusion is my favorite and I'm sick of Super fans shitting on it?

Oracle of Seasons is better than Ages in almost every way. Ages, despite being the "puzzle" oriented game, had much worse puzzles than Seasons. Also its items were less interesting for the most part. A strength upgrade that you only use a handful of times being the final dungeons item is really disappointing. I will say that Mermaid Cave in Ages was a great dungeon. Utilizing both present and past was really cool. Too bad the next dungeon was the worst between the both games

Entei or Raikou should have been the mascot for Pokemon Crystal. Not sure why the picked the least interesting of the three, but whatever. Of course it would have to be named something else too.

Majora's Mask is a very unsatisfying game to play. I get that its a game, but I genuinely do not feel like I'm helping these people at all since in a little while I'm just gonna end up resetting the clock again anyway. Then their problems will be back again, but the only difference is I'll have another mask that I'll only use 2 or 3 times. Honestly, being able the re-battle bosses is the best part of MM.

The ranching segments of RDR1 are the worst parts of the game.

Please stop calling the Gamecube Animal Crossing game "Population Growing". I get that its on the game case, but nowhere in the game does it say that. Not even on the title screen.

To elaborate, 5 had the co-op and more action focused set pieces compared to 4, but I think the controls and gameplay were still quite stiff. It felt restrained. The bosses in that game are also freakin horrible. Tedious at best.

6 has a dreadful opening showing but after a chapter or two it really gets a groove going. Really really fun satisfying gunplay. Incredible graphics for 360/PS3. Fun goofy set pieces and locations with plenty of variety. Chris' story sucks, but he's sucked in everything outside the first game.

I thought it was great as well. It got hammered with complaints about being linear, but most of the games in the series are linear. Even when you could backtrack in previous games there was rarely a reason to do so until you got an airship. You could maybe make an argument about the dungeons being linear compared to more explorable ones in previous games, but how often was that even enjoyable? You go roaming around a cave hitting more annoying random encounters and get a few extra potions you were never going to use anyway.

Sonic The Hedgehog hasn't been worth playing since the Genesis, and I'm aware that most of my fondness for those is just nostalgia.

Mega Man 9 sucked.

Top down Zelda is best Zelda (with the exception of Spirit Tracks, which was trash). But...

Zelda 2 is a very good game.

Fable 2 > Fable

Dark Souls 2 > Dark Souls

While I enjoy several Metroid games, the jumping has never felt good.

I should be the one to decide which AAA gaming franchise needs a sequel, prequel, and a remake. How many games there should be in the franchise, and when it's time for that franchise to come to an end. I'll also have the power to force the big studios to put out more original content and new game franchises.
