The prices are insane but look at those bids! I checked a few and people really want them despite the high cost. I know they its a Rolex but thats an insane price for a watch. Are they really worth it?

Depends on the definition of "luxury". Nothing as crazy as a Rolex, but I have a Citizen Skyhawk Blue Angels, which I think I paid $350 for a long time ago, and a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, which runs $550 (and you really need to have a recent-ish Samsung phone to go with it).

I have a Rolex that was handed down to me from my father, who had it gifted to him by his parents for his high school graduation present which wouldve been sometime in the 60s. Still have the original box and insert. Will never wear it

I think my most expensive watch cost like 350, so not exactly high end. I rarely wear watches anyway unless its for sport, so Ive never seen the point in laying down a lot of cash on one.

It's just jewelry, boring and lame

Yes, I had wanted a luxury mechanical watch for basically forever and got an Omega about a year ago. Replaced my Citizen Blue Angle Eco-Drive I bought 20 years ago.

As a functional time piece a cheap Casio quartz watch is going to be more accurate, probably lighter, and more comfortable to wear.

The "worth" is much like jewelry. It's not based on anything practical or real.

Even when people still regularly wore watches, I hated them. I only owned one wrist watch for like 6 months before I switched to pocket watches.

Now I just use my phone. But I also have one of these.

But given that the highest any Submariner went for, that still comes up, is less then $55,000 (and that one looks like it's made from mostly 18k gold), I'm pretty sure the one you linked to won't approach mid to high 5-figures, let alone 7-figures.

That thing has more dials than an airplane. That's the kind of watch I'd expect a time traveler to wear.

I have two fancy watches (over $1000 value) that were gifts from family. I collect enough other stuff that I wouldn't really bother with collecting more but I think its good for an adult man to have a nice watch (doesn't have to be thousands of dollars). Men are pretty limited in mature accessories and not having one or two for a special occasion at least is a bit of a waste.

I would never spend so much on a watch. Plus in this day and age it's a sign of a show-off. You can easily check the time on your phone. But to each their own.
