Trump spoke at a reading level roughly 2 grades lower than Harris, so the average American bought in to his vibes. I've wondered about the reading level but last week I saw it first hand. One of my employees was with me in the back with a list of cases to pull(wine and liquor), so I had her go down the list and read them out to me. We had to reverse roles a few minutes in when she couldn't pronounce adequately most of the items on the list, so I was constantly not even sure what the hell she was telling me to pull. She is 23. Great employee for a lot of reasons, but the reading level doesn't seem to be there. And I know a lot of wine or liquor items can be hard to pronounce names, having a greater reading level overall means you struggle less when you see "big" or unfamiliar words and the desire to want to give up doesn't some as naturally. This sounds like I'm being an asshole about it, but I wasn't in the moment, nor would I be in the future. But I just imagine a nation where the average person has that level of comprehension, where they can't even read out a list of names properly and it kind of clues me in to how we are here. ... MFW taking remedial mathematics in my 30s has put me above most Americans within only three months. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/9/961242e9.jpg Being serious though it's a pretty fuckin' depressing situation and speaks to a very good example of why politics is as fucked as it is. No critical thinking, no capacity to even try to think critically on the most shallow of levels. The sort of level of "why should we trust politican Y when we know they're all liars and conmen by design" is beyond even the slightly above average American. Or the average human for that matter, critical thought is not the default for a human and needs to be taught to the majority. This is all why I feel collapse of civilization is a looming threat. Even ignoring things like climate change, within my own lifetime I have seen humanity degrade itself to astonishing levels. Absolute basics like very basic home-cooking is now beyond the majority and it's entirely by design from corporate overlords (especially the cooking.)
