Tons. I've seen so many actually think he was a good guy with a valid point and the only thing he did wrong was use children despite Raiden outright saying this guy's ideals were completely insane.

Volume 2 spoilers: Yu is used as a very unsubtle allegory for transgender tribulations (Yu isn't trans, she was born and identifies as a woman but her mother deliberately afflicted her with a gender-bending curse so she could have a male heir), Rae reveals one of her friends in her past life was a transman who killed himself, so she, in a rare moment of doing something unrelated to Claire, goes through hell and back to help Yu, and succeeds in curing her curse.

Volume 4 spoilers: Then Rae and Claire meet a transwoman and deliberately afflict her with the same curse Yu was under so she could live as a woman.

Also there's the fact that nearly everymajor female character turns out to be some flavor of queer aside from the obvious case of Rae, Claire, and Manaria. Yu and Misha? Lesbians. Pepi and Loretta? Lesbians. The empress of Nur? Bi. Her daughter? Lesbian. One of the church cardinals? Lesbian.

Inori (the author) herself being a queer woman had a lot to do with it.

Nah, another friend of mine suggested I watch the anime, I did then I ordered the novels.

I watched this show last year. Really liked it, and it was in no small part because of stuff like this. IIRC there was another scene somewhere else that was very forward with its discussion of consent, and I really really loved that (and at the time honestly kinda needed that, because I struggle a lot with flirting with people and worrying it's unwelcome - even though I'm a dumbass and recognize they're flirting right back half the time, and always stop if they say they don't like it).

(Or maybe I'm thinking of a different show with such a scene? I forget.)

Wish it would get more seasons

Oh jeez. I really enjoyed this anime, in large part because I can strongly relate to Rae. (I, too, would spend my entire isekai life shunning the plot so I can be an obnoxious INT 0 lesbian at my secondary NPC waifu~)

I didn't like this scene initially, but in an "it's not supposed to be fun" kind of way. In retrospect, I actually do like it a lot for explicitly addressing the question of sexuality, and so early on in the story at that. And not just in an "everyone is okay with gay people, it's cool" way, either. It actually takes the matter seriously by establishing that homophobia is a very real thing in this world - even Rae's own romantic interest is, for the moment, repulsed by the idea. It's uncomfortable and sad, and that's important because it happens in the real world too, but worse. Scenes like this are what make the eventual payoff that much more satisfying.

I was already gonna be on the lookout for more seasons, but after reading that spoiler-laden post, now I'm practically begging for more~

There's also "The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady." That's another lesbian isekai series. It doesn't try to be as deep as Love With The Villainess, but it doesn't hold its punches with some of the story beats in the anime and light novels.
