So they can all burn in hell. I'd love to say there was some long-term strategy in this case, but CPU placement is unfortunately locked when you the player crosses the finish line. So even if you do manage to nail your assigned nemesis at the last second and they clearly would've tumbled to 4th or 5th, they still get 2nd place if that's where they are when you finish.
